I have zero interest in The Rings of Power. I did like Petey Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those Hobbit films though... Surely Rings of Power is no worse than those train wrecks.
At 67, I sincerely doubt I'm your "son," unless you're a priest. "Continuation," does not describe Rings of Power. Mutilation would describe it better. I don't understand why Amazon paid about $250 million dollars for the rights to Tolkien's work and then (besides using the names) completely changed the characters. They could have just come up with their own fantasy story (since they lost the Tolkien fans anyhow). I didn't watch it, just saw some of the scenes in the reviews. For some reason Amazon hired a couple show runners who had no prior credits -- and it showed. For a $billion dollar series? Weird.

I agree that Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy was good. I didn't mind the Hobbit trilogy as much as some, but they did stretch it out too long. But next to Rings of Power, The Hobbit is a world class masterpiece. Tolkien's books are still the best, though.

I watched that. I thought it was pretty good. I think another good (recent) Amazon series was The English.

Let me tell you about a little movie titled I, Robot...

I will say, you should watch the show before slagging it. I personally think the Transformers movies look abysmal, But I don't go around dumping on them because I haven't watched any of them.

I grumble about The Hobbit movies, but buddy, I sat through all three of those bombs.

I must question your taste.

On the one hand, the movies barely worked as an adaptation. They had none of the feel of the book and even the story was buried under so many subplots and action scenes that it didn't feel like an adaptation of the book at all.

But then, The Shining is a brilliant movie that similarly doesn't follow the book.

The problem is The Hobbit movies are just bad movies. Likely due to the studio pushing for Lord of the Rings 2: Electric Bugaloo. But the movies were plodding and chock full of awkward cameos by all your favorite LOTR friends.

A story that would have made a great long movie or two good average movies was stretched out to three overlong action spectaculars. Battle scenes were amped up to the point where they looked embarrassing.

And because the dwarves couldn't be cowardly like they were in the book, they had to run around activating some gold river thingy. Ugh, I was looking at my watch and just wishing this final movie would end already.

A show I just discovered, but haven't yet watched myself: Pagan Peak. It's a German show and is available in German or English. Be warned, it looks like there is a season 2 that is not yet freely available on Prime.

I mostly agree with your opinion re the Hobbit movies. Still, the Rings of Power is much worse. It's just bad. IMO, of course. Not only because it bears no resemblance whatsoever to Tolkien's characters. The plot, characters and dialogue are one big, old, tedious, moldy cliche. You practically know every word a character is going to say before they open their mouth. No originality, freshness or sparkle, none. A total yawnfest.

The thread was about faint front light bleed in the bottom of the Clara 2E screen.

Anyone experiencing this? In my case Sage and Libra2 have a perfect front light but Nia and Clara 2E have this "problem".

As Ann Landers or her sister once wrote, "you don't have to stick your head into a cement mixer to know you won't like it." I saw enough of the "acting" and "writing" and "directing" in the review clips to know that this series was terrible. I don't need to waste ten hours of my life to verify it. Besides, I could see just in the promotional material, that they had completely changed Galadriel from Tolkien's version. She was the main character in Rings of Power and they couldn't even get her right.

But they weren't bombs. They rate well on IMDB and each grossed about a $billion dollars worldwide. In comparison to the Lord of the Rings they were definitely wanting, but that would be true with most other fantasy movies as well.

You're right, but it still doesn't mean they were bombs. If they made The Hobbit properly (according to the book) it would have had the tone of a kid's story (like the original). But, obviously, they tried to turn it into Lord of the Rings 2. I would have preferred they hadn't done it that way but (for what it was) it wasn't horrible (in my opinion, at least).[/quote]

I'll have to take your word for it. I haven't read the book or seen the movie. Although I did spend four days at the Stanley Hotel's meeting hall, getting certified to do single-mode fiber optic splicing, in the early 90s (something I never used in the real world).

That was solved in the first couple of posts.

No. But it can differ device to device.

The Clara HD had a serious light bleed problem in the first batch with many people noticing it. It got better.

I have not seen widespread complaints of light bleed on the Nia or Clara 2. But if you say you have them, I believe you.

Oh man, you owe it to yourself to see The Shining. It really is a great film. If I'm being honest, I prefer it to the book, though they diverge so wildly that they are two different experiences.

And if you really want to fall down a rabbit hole, watch the documentary Room 237, to see how people can over analyze a work of art. People believe The Shining is everything from a commentary on the displacement of the native Americans to Kubrick's confession that he faked the moon landing.
