If I'm sitting at a table, I use a stand of course. Sitting in a doctor's waiting room, a bit more difficult - it depends if I have a bag that will suit, but I still need to hold the device. Lying in bed, it depends on posture and angle - sometimes I'll arrange pillows to help, but that doesn't work when there's a husband in the way. I do need to have the device at a particular distance and angle, so it's in the right spot in my multifocals, so that limits placement.

We're all different. None of it's about "strength" for me, I'm plenty strong, I just need to be conscious of using joint preservation techniques at all times. Look after your joints, you'll miss them when they're gone.

YES!!! I have many books which can only be read on 10" and more which are better on 10", but the DPI and lack of ComfortLight Pro cancel the bigger real estate respective to the Sage.

Provided of course
  • the RAM is still 1 Gb (double the Sage's), one reason some books are only readable on Elipsa which would otherwise be fine on the Sage
  • and the battery is not halved for weight reasons or whatever: the Sage, otherwise perfect, is really problematic in that respect - I've had problems on not even so long trips without access to charging ports.
I would also very much like buttons, which I consider essential for navigating the books or collections lists (I have some 7000 items on the Sage).

Well, for one, it's difficult to put my ereader on something soft if I'm walking, or standing in the bus or the subway (all of them are situations I read a lot).

Is CPU speed really an issue? The E-Ink screen refresh speed seems likely to be the limiting factor on the device.

Yes, it's an issue. Navigating on the Sage is noticeably faster, navigating on my Libra 2 is painfully slow in comparison. By navigating I mean any activities that include selecting something on the screen (menu, Aa menu, library list, dictionary, searching, viewing TOC and so on and so on).

Oh! Maybe Kobo could come up with a device that has a small, lightweight battery, but also comes with a case and that case houses a larger battery that charges the smaller one when the reader isn't being used. Then, everybody will be satisfied!

They'd mess it up. They have a Power Cover for the Sage, but it doesn't work properly.

Interesting, thanks for that info. I suppose they gave the Sage multiple CPU cores because of the pen support/handwriting recognition stuff.

* Assuming you get multiple large capacity batteries of course.
That is ridiculous. The battery life of the Sage is crap as it is. Making a new version that has even worse battery life will tank. It needs to have better battery life if it is a new Sage. It needs to last at least as long as the Libra 2 if not longer.

The other thing that can be done that some are doing is they get a smaller/lighter Reader for going out and about and the larger/heavier Reader is for use at home.

No. Amazon did that with the original Oasis and that was a disaster. It's a terrible design choice. A good battery needs to be inside the device and not halved and put part in a case.

The Kobo Aura One was a good design, but totally screwed with a cheap crappy battery.

What’s ridiculous is your insistence that your way is the only way. Plenty of people on this forum who, unlike you, actually own and use a Sage have little to no issues with the battery life.

Plenty of people have explained why they want a lighter device rather than a heavier one. And here’s some news for you Jon, you can add weight through those cases you like to pretend are also required for an ereader, you can not however remove weight from an ereader with anything near the ease and simplicity. So if you want a heavier device there are options, for a lighter device we’re beholden to the device manufacturer.

The Kobo Aura One was the best 7.8" 300 DPI e-reader ever made. If Kobo redid that one with the new 10 inch 300 DPI Kindle Scribe screen and a faster more modern processor and suitable lighting they'd have the Ultimate e-reader. At least until such time as color e-readers start looking like real books.

Well, the only thing we know for sure about the new Kobo is that it will support a pen. So I would guess it's going to have a largish screen.
