Well, I finally got the Glowlight 4 plugged into a PC. It only shows 5 GB of free space. For what my wife uses it for, 5 GB is more than enough space.

But it's a stupid thing to do.

Yes, still works with Amazon fine. As noted in another post, you can't surf the web or buy books with it any longer, but I can download books and Audibooks on my account without a problem. I also sideload. The best thing is that you can read while wearing a pair of gloves in the winter. Important if you wait for the bus or for waiting outside in the car as we had to do in 2020-2021.

The only way I do it is with voice recognition, and if it only requires once sentence. Anything longer than that, and I wait till I get home and get to my desk.

Just checked as most of my content on Kindle Keyboards has been sideloaded. Downloaded Timeframe by Michael Crichton which I bought a couple of weeks ago. Typed in an example note and it saved it in "MyClippings". Downloaded it on another kindle. Note is there. So yeah, it works.

The Glowlight 4 did an update when I first set it up. Now it's saying that I am up to date and I am still limited to 5 GB.

I've checked and the only mobile phones I've found with physical buttons (excluding the buttons on their edge) are flip phones and ice-cream-bar phones. In both cases, the buttons are in the form of the traditional 12-button keypad.

I went back to a flip phone and one of the reasons was due to the small size of the buttons on my smart phone. When texting I often ended up hitting the wrong button, type a few letters, and then have to backspace several times to make the correction (tapping to move the cursor often was more of a pain that it was worth). Although typing with the 12-button keypad is a bit slower I'm more accurate with it (if I want a space I get a space, not a "b" or "c" or "v" instead).

Do you realize that by keeping the nook GL4 that you are sending a message to B&N that it's OK to partition the storage?

You have to send a message that it's not OK to partition the storage by returning it and telling the salesperson exactly why you ar returning it.

This is absurd. Are you to return every single product that doesn’t meet your needs perfectly? A monk would have more stuff than you. And you think a salesperson cares and will be on a mission to make your opinion known in the highest echelons? I know you loathe B&N, but get a grip.

Oh, I thought he was being ironic
It's the sort of thing I'd say to a youngster who was looking under a magnifying glass to find a dead pixel so he could waste a day taking something back, arguing with staff who do not care at all, and being no better off!

Perhaps some positivity is due at this point:

PART of what Jon is saying makes sense. That is, if someone is unhappy with the way it's partitioned (and you didn't realize it at first), simply return it to where it was purchased. NO lengthy explanation is required. THEN, compose a thoughtful email about WHY the device was returned. When finished, SEND the email to whomever you feel would benefit from your thoughts. FINALLY, stay away from B&N until they make a device that you feel you can live with.

That's the part I've never been able to figure. I would love to see the Nook line succeed. I like their hardware. I like their UI. But their software is lacking and they make dumb decisions like partitioning the memory and finding a Nook in their stores is like Where's Waldo.

But Nook development seems to be a black box. I've yet to find anything aside from the generic customer service email.

When the GL3 was released, I actually found an email address for B&N's president and sent something there. That got me calls from his assistant and Nook did roll back partitioned storage on the 3.

But management has changed since then, so no joy.
