FWIW I use Thunderbird and gmail. I usually don't keep Thunderbird up to date.
A couple of weeks ago, I was unable to receive email. Doing a Google, it looked like an OAuth2 problem. I updated Thunderbird, changed to OAuth2, and things worked after that. I'm also using POP with gmail. |

No way am I giving Google a phone number and linking all my gmail accounts to it, or for ANYONE installing an App so I can do email on a desktop. Both are broken ideas.

All my gmail is setup via the Google web interface to forward to non-gmail accounts.
If my domain provider's DNS goes down, or my hosting goes down, then I can use the Web Interface. Naturally the Domain Services company and Hosting company have either gmail addresses for me or also a gmail address! Though both have a login web portal to report issues, the replies would go to gmail. |
