Smile Solution for Norton 360

Basically, I am new to these forums and have had a Sony 505 since Christmas this year. But since then I have never been able to connect to the Sony Ebook store. I knew that Norton 360 was the issue but I could not get into the store unless I went into safe mode with networking.

So to correct this issue if you have Norton 360 try these steps:

1. Right Click My Computer and select Manage

2. Hit the plus mark under Services and Applications then select Services.

3. Find Symantec Network Proxy in the list right click it and click stop in the drop down list.

4. Open Ebook Library and Select Sony Store. It shoud connect.

This worked for me please let me know if it works for others. When you are complete with your use I would restart that service since it may be blocking other potentially bad internet pages from loading. Not sure though.

Joe

My suggestion is to actually 100% uninstall Norton 360 or anything else Norton that has to do with antivirus, spam, or firewalls.

Question

Question? If I took my PRS-700 to a friends house and used their computer without my filter, would I be able to buy a book? Would connecting my reader be enough? Or would I need to install the program on their computer
I'm guessing that it won't work without the program, because their computer wouldn't be authorized. This whole thing's got my brain so fried, I can't think straight.

Update on current situation. My filter tech support called Sony tech support directly. They actually tried to install the program on their computers and said "that it refuses to run". They said and I quote "The support at the Sony side is not equipped to handle the questions we are asking, so we are having to do other things for our own testing to try to get something to help you."

Ugh.

Ugh.

You can authorize several computers to run the library software, but you would have to install the Library program on their computer.

Why is it you actually need these filters? Most filters filter out content you actually want as you can tell.

I was asked this in another thread. Not to repeat myself... but I am the administrator in the family. It's not just for my child, but for my husband and myself. There's a lot on the internet that I don't want popping up in my face. I don't believe in censorship, but I do believe in protecting my family. I'm quite happy with this filter (this is the only snag I've had with it in years of having it and they are working with me on it.)
