Why did you delete that link? It was for paper back books, not the ebooks!

And since Agatha Christie died in 1976, her works won't be in the public domain until 2027 in life+50 countries (like Canada) or until 2047 in life+70 countries (like the UK)

I find this whole thing with removing links strange. If I post the address to a second hand shop will some moderatpr remove it because a second hand shop most definitely sell some stolen properties? Why is a link to an ebay auction problematic? People are overreacting.

In Nates defense, we had been talking about an illegal link. He just didn't realize the subject had changed to a legal link. He's apologized, and cased closed.

Its a hectic time of year, and I understand his reaction. No harm, no foul.

We've switched to using Abilify for over-reaction. Still under patent and therefore we can charge more.

$300, please, you can pay the laddy at the door.

No you wouldn't, they are evil, evil people... Antiquarian booksellers are below antique dealers on my list, and that is saying alot... I go to the same fleamarkets and auctions as many of the antiquarian booksellers from SE PA, NJ (Lamberville) and NY and they make me really wonder if some of Lovecraft's works weren't real...

I have no problem with someone making a profit or finding a 'steal'... But it truly takes a certain character to go up to someone, ask about the price of a book you know is worth $100, find out it is .50 cents, and refuse to buy until they go down to a quarter. Then... THEN go back to your shop and mark it $150. Cthulu must be proud....

(I'm being harsh, there are decent ones, they just don't tend to make much of a profit )

I, of course, wouldn't do that. I is a good girl

For example, when I worked at the textbook store, we had this thing where we would buy back ANY book for $1. So this guy calls us up and asks if he could drop some books off because he was moving and needed to get rid of him. I was pissy about it, since there's a local book sale where books are donated and profits go to women's scholarships. But we have to say yes.

So he comes in, grabs his cash, then leaves. We start peeking through, and we see all these old books from the late 1800s. I get all excited, and keep looking. I find a copy of Leon Uris' "Trinity" in there, dust jacket and all. I peek to see if it is a first edition, and not only that, but it is SIGNED by Mr. Uris.

Stupidly, I told my boss (even though I knew how much it was worth). Still kicking myself in the butt for that one.

The guy mentioned they were all of his grandmother's books. Even to an untrained eye at least a few of those books had some value. So I didn't really care much for his feelings.

I do like visiting second-hand book sellers. I live about 41 miles away from Hay-on-Wye, which is the original book town, and has about 40 second-hand bookshops.
And when I'm in Paris, I can't resist looking at the bouquinistes, sighing at their outrageous prices, and going to the weekend sales of livres soldes et antiquaires at the Parc George Brassens (15ème arrondisement).
(In Brittany, which we visit about once a year, we go to Becherel; another Book-town, and buy French books and drink coffee in a cafe called "La Vache que Lire.")
But of late, I've taken to looking at the book and crying, "but it's on Project Gutenberg/ Gallica/ The Internet Archive!"

My partner has this improbable fantasy that we retire to Hay-on Wye and sell off our book collection (about 12000, but I've been having a clear-out lately). But I point out that we will be old and wrinkly, and will want to be near a good A&E hospital department. Which we are now.

Oh. luxury. I have visited twice and would really like to go there a copule of more times before paper books become totally obsolete. There is a special feeling walking around and nearly every shop is a bookshop.

So if I ever decide to visit England, I tell the trip planner my destination is "Hay-on-Wye"?

Sounds like a wonderful place to spend some time......and money!
