They don't seem to use the page count method because you can read offline on your reader or in the Kobo app. And unlike KindleUnlimited, you aren't restricted to just 20 books downloaded per month.

Edited to add: Also not sure which countries other than Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands and (I think) the US it's available in. But a quick search on the Kobo site ought to help you find it.
Thanks for the suggestion but looks like UK not yet part of this. And as someone suggested further down unfortunately the authors I want are not on Kobo. But, I actually had a proper look at the authors I read on KU and it made me realise there's a lot less on there than I thought. Many of the series I was reading have now finished, there a couple of cosy crime type series still going but I read them more as 'padding' to use up any free trial time and I could easily find other (and probably better) similar book series off KU very easily. There's essentially one author left who I think has one more book to go for his current series that I'd really want to read but for the sake of one or 2 more books I'm happy to just buy them. I spotted a couple of other stand alone books whilst I was browsing but my library has copies of them and I'd much rather borrow from there and support them than borrow from KU and support Amazon so I can def live without it now.
