You really don't get it do you. Let me explain:

The simple act of someone posting in thread I monitor means I read it. If that is a pointless, empty post, like all of your posts in this thread, I have to waste my time reading it. And unfortunately, I feel obliged to respond as I keep hoping that you will actually learn something.

Unless you actually have something to add to the topic this thread is supposed to be about, just don't post in it.

at least we agree on one thing. your right (i don't get it) all you had to do was (choose) to ignore my comment at post (21) in which case i wouldn't have made any of these subsequent off topic responses. please bare in mind you don't have a monopoly on feeling obliged to respond.

it's very rare for me not to reply if someone takes the time to respond to me. that being said this will be my last off topic comment in this thread.

best wishes koboy

While my response was directly to your post, it was clearly to others as well. Yours was just the convenient one. And I of course would not have needed to make any comment if you had not decided to comment on a topic that you clearly have no knowledge about or any involvement in. And I make that statement because you clearly state you do not use calibre, and both of the posts are so devoid of actual content, they are completely useless.

GOOD. As you have not added anything in any of your responses.

I’d say it’s more contribute to the solution, or don’t clutter the thread.

Several people offered potential solutions, some would work, others wouldn’t. Yours and mine would be examples of the latter. But all were made in good faith of trying to help the OP and contributed towards solving the problem posed.

Others chimed in offering nothing, neither that they too suffered from the problem posed or something similar, nor a possible solution to the problem posed.

The former group is at least trying to be helpful. The latter group does nothing save to increase the posts in this thread count.

I have an old iMac (2011) running High Sierra on which is installed calibre 3.48.

As I'm retired and the iMac still works fine I've no intension of buying a new machine. :-)

That means I cannot upgrade Calibre version past 3.48. ...
As a workaround, have you considered using the Sage's DropBox features? You could collect and sort the books in Calibre and then upload them to DropBox where the Sage would have access to them. (At least I think this should work.) Not as nice as directly connecting to Calibre but it might work in a pinch.

For what it's worth, there's a portable version of calibre that you can run without installing. With it I am able to run calibre 5.30 and manage my libra 2 on windows 7 64bits.

I'm surprised by that as I though the restriction in calibre v5 was for all versions of it. But, the portable version might allow it to be installed as it can be run from a USB drive on any Windows machine. Unfortunately I don't have a Win7 machine to test on. My last one died recently.

If it works, then it is a good solution.

I don't know if it works on win7 32bits, I don't see why it wouldn't. The restriction seems to be purely a programmer's choice; the setup program refuses to execute on Windows older than 8 but the calibre program itself (portable version in a zip, not installed) runs fine on 7.

From what I remember, one of the main reasons Calibre 5 may not run with Windows 7 is because the graphics driver is old and not working with Calibre 5.

It'll work; I have a 32-bit Windows 10 machine and the portable version runs fine on there so I would imagine it'd run on 32-bit Windows 7 too.

Depends on the graphics driver and what APIs it supports. It may run, but stuff like the ebook viewer or editor may crash or not launch, which might be enough if all one wants to do is transfer books or manage a collection.

calibre Portable Version 5.31.1 https://calibre-ebook.com/download_portable works on my 64-bit Windows 7. the ebook viewer and editor are also working perfectly for me.
