I'm beginning to wonder about this discussion. What I said is that the substrate used for the eInk Mobius display which is layer 8 in the diagram is made of plastic. That layer is the one that is most susceptible to cracking or breaking going by all the reports seen on MobileRead and elsewhere. The top layers of a Mobius display can be plastic as in their flexible displays or the same as in a standard glass substrate eInk display.

Maybe I can help and say I don't care about the screen difference, both are find for me, whatever gets or doesn't get light , hahaa.

I'm just thinking about the best option as a typewriter/word processor. It won't be in the sun, or much off my desk for that matter.

8 is completely irrelevant for the brightness and contrast of the display - but 1 and 2 are important and that is more transparent with a glass module (Note Air) than with a 10.3 inch Mobius - I said nothing else in article 16.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as clear to me as glass - the Note Air's screen is brighter and more contrasty than that of the Likebook Alita, which is also used in the Note 3
And with Mobius (flexible) layers 1 and 2 cannot consist of glass.

The entire point of Mobius is that 8 is flexible because it it not glass. Mobius in practice might only have layers 1 and 2 that are optically inferior to whatever the optically best layers 1 and 2 on previous screens, but that is not inherent to whether or not 8 is flexible.

All prior screens had glass substrates no matter what the materials of the top layers and there have been a variety of top layer materials. If you have complaints about the top layers it only injects confusion to associate that with Mobius.

When you write Mobius in reference to e-ink displays, people that know anything will associate that with the flexible substrate (8). If your focus is on any other aspect, you need to be explicit and/or provide sufficient context.

Perhaps you will understand my statement this way: There is no Mobius display that can compete with the glass display of a Boox Note Air in terms of clarity, brightness and contrast - simply because Mobius layers 1 and 2 are more diffuse and not equally transparent like these from Note Air.

Perhaps you will understand if it's explained this way: There is no such thing as "Mobius layers 1 and 2". The "flex" in the Mobius screen refers *only* to the substrate (layer 8). Some manufacturers may have added flexible materials to the upper layers so that the screen can actually be bent, but others, such as the Kobo Forma (and other readers do as well, although I don't know about the ones discussed in this thread) use a mobius screen, and I promise you, it can not be bent, folded, or flexed. The purpose of the mobius screen on the Forma is to make it lighter and more durable, not to make it actually able to bend.

Layers 1 and 2 are part of a Mobius display - not just layer 8.
And the Mobius layers 1 and 2 are not as clear and transparent as the layers 1 and 2 of the Boox Note Air display - simply because the Boox Note Air display (glass) is brighter and more contrasty than all Mobius displays

What material the layer 8 is made of is completely uninteresting for those looking at the display - layers 1 and 2 are important for them, because only through these does the light pass.
And it's not about bending or anything - a flexible EInk module cannot break as easily as one made of glass.
And above the EInk module there are other layers that are not flexible either (light guide aso)

I decided on none.

Thanks to the community for all the helps - looks like e-ink tablets are not for me.
Saves me $700

Not even feasible to upgrade my Kobo Libre to a Likebook Ares instead of Forma because the price diff is still too high here too.

Back to Libre & Chromebook.

Thanks everyone.
