Looking for waterproof e-reader with large or expandable storage

Yes, you have read by the pool carefully with non-waterproof devices. But, a lot of people rejoiced when the waterproof devices came out because they could much more safely read by the pool.

And a lot of people like relaxing in a hot bath with a glass of wine and a good book. And headphones to block out the screaming children. The bath serves purposes other than just a place to read or a way to get clean. It relaxes muscles, they can contain powders/minerals/whatever to help, the steam can clear the breathing, you can hide from others and a lot of other reasons.

Accept it, reading in the bath is not for you. But, for others, it definitely is. And a waterproof ereader is the best way to do this.

No - in any case, I don't want my device, whether waterproof or not, to come into contact with the bath/pool water or the sand on the beach.

Need to have:
Waterproof (for bathtub use)
Basic browser functionality (mainly Reddit text posts and comments, light articles)
Expandable storage, either a card slot or easily being able to open the back and swap an internal SD or micro SD card, or optionally 64GB+ storage not expandable
Easily sideload books in nearly any common format, probably mostly epub, maybe some mobi

Nice to have:
Physical buttons
Open / unlocked software and ecosystem, the more open the better

My budget is max $100 for a new or used reader, preferably closer to $50.

IMO. your ideal reader doesn't exist at the price point you have specified. If that is a hard upper limit on the budget; I think you have to either give up the waterproof requirement, or the expandable storage requirement... or both...to find something under $100 U.S.

Basic browser and having epub and mobi supported are relatively easy to find (Kobo, Pocketbook)
