In the US at least, UltraViolet was replaced with Movies Anywhere. Movies Anywhere links to and allows me to watch on a variety of services including Google Play, iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, etc.

I just bought Lord of the Rings 4K UHD Blu-ray set and it came with digital copy codes.

I'm all for publishers offering a free e-copy of something purchased in a physical format. It already happens in some cases (CDs from Amazon, DVDs, comics and some book publishers). I don't really see a downside to it from the publisher.

For me, the inclusion of digital copies encourage me to buy physical rather than purely digital. It also made the price increase for first release movies more palatable instead of waiting for an eventual sale.

Marvel digital copies certainly got me to step foot in the local comic shop instead of just buying direct from Amazon/comiXology.
