Non-Fiction: Rock and Gem magazine, Nov 2008 edition.

Feature article on rock tumbling. Something went horribly wrong with the most recent batch. I think maybe I only put in 1 or 2 TBL of cerium oxide instead of 3, and it wasn't enough to make a nice glassy surface.

Next weekend when the new batch finishes this first rough tumble, I think the botched batch will go back in for another week with the cerium oxide. Also maybe some plastic pellets for rubbing up against? I've got them but have never used them.

What stones were they? I know some can go dull (turquoise I think is one of them). I use my tumbler mostly for finishing silver though - brings a great shine to it!

Um, from books and various forums etc on the web! I'm by no means proficient except for small jewellery stuff. We don't (yet) have a forge, so I'm just brazing/soldering stuff on the heat bricks (and obviously cutting, filing, shaping etc) - mind you, I've seen those used to good effect with steel!

I'm reading "The Public Domain" by James Boyle. I love reading free ebooks about the evils of DRM and the DMCA.

I think I'm going to assemble all my "copyfight" books into a folder, make a subfolder for PDFs of relevant court rulings, and add a section for various internet/hacker manifestos. When I have 100 mb of content (including different versions) or at least 50 unique pieces, I'll burn it to a disc to hand out to people who roll their eyes when I start babbling about copyright law.

Hmm, I don't know, I tried in Opera and IE and it downloaded fine. And I'm not logged into Google. The book didn't really start til about page 9 in the PDF for me.

Pro does not trump ADE. ADE allows DRM features that Pro could break; when they want to be sure you're not doing anything they don't like (like printing, or saving out the file to another format, or changing the metadata, or adding new bookmarks, or copying the text), they want you using a program that doesn't have all those extra features.

I should note, I'm using Adobe Reader 8, and don't have DE... I also don't see why you would have a problem saving it, it is just a straight download, no validation code or anything. Maybe if you could elaborate a bit on the steps you take and what it says we could be more helpful?
