Does your personal PW3 work well? If it does, then there is no need for you to worry any longer.

If I had a PW3 (well, I do but it is on loan to a friend), I would be having the same question as JSWolf. There does not seem to be any technical reason why it would not get the same updates as the Voyage, as it has in the past. It is a perfectly reasonable expectation to have.

Unfortunately we don’t have a Kindle developer or product manager here to explain things, so idle speculation is about all we can bring to the discussion (which of course could have its own thread for those interested in carrying on with one).

If I were to speculate, they messed up somewhere along the way and have bricked some PW3’s and had to pull the update pending a broader investigation into the causes. I say this as someone whose Voyage got bricked by an update earlier this year (CS blamed me for doing something ‘wrong’, though it is not clear how that could be true). There are more PW3s in circulation so the bar to ensure they have actually fixed the issue is higher.

The DX has severe hardware limitations that prevented it from getting KF8 along with Kindle 1 and 2.

I am not quite sure that Amazon agrees that the cover issue is actually a bug. And couldn't tell if 5.13.1 changes that behavior, or if Bookerly got fixed. None of my Oasis, nor my PW3 obviously, have 5.13.1 yet. I am not in a rush, especially since installing a new FW no longer guarantees new features due to the horrid staggered rollout that Amazon does now. It took until 5.13.1 came out for me to get the dark mode switch in 5.12.5.

I did side load something a Kindle eBook the other day and the cover bug happened. I did edit the eBook in the Calibre editor to fix a few things. But I did not change the ASIN. SO why did the cover bug happen?

I'll try side loading without using the Calibre editor and see how that works.

Iirc, @jhowell explained before that the “cover bug” users are complaining about is intentional behavior on Amazon’s part on the newer firmwares.

I have a couple of Kindles primarily used with Kindle Unlimited that I allow to automatically update just to see what’s new in the latest firmwares. Frankly, there’s been no noteworthy features that I find worth updating for. I actually find the new Aa menu annoying.

Still happily using 5.9.6.1 on my JB PW3s and 5.10.1.3 on my JB PW4s.

Thank you, I only sideload my books with Wi-Fi off so I've not come across this bug. I can see how it would be annoying for some people though.
