People tend though to break ereaders by sitting, walking, kneeling on them, or something falling on the screen. Sometimes by dropping them. My son has broken at least two phones in his pocket simply by walking into things. My new ereaders all cost more than my current phone or tablets and a bit more than 1/3rd of the cost of my laptop. |

Damn. I’m stuck deciding as well. I’m in Canada. Looking to purchase soon but it’s tough. Importance to me is size of screen and quality of print. I wear reading glasses. Also I would be reading a lot in a darker room.
Have e readers come always? I had a kindle maybe 3-4 years ago. I found it too small. And a year ago had a Clara and found it too small. And from what I remember both readers seem to flicker. Is that normal? I’m a casual reader. Any suggestions? For me it would be either kindle or kobo. I was interested in the kobo forma but it’s pretty old now? Is it still pretty good and relevant? Thanks for any guidance. |

E-reader tech doesn't get outdated the way other tech (pcs, phones, etc) does. The Forma remains very relevant to those who want a large screen reader. If the 8-inch screen appeals, and the price seems worth it to you, you would not regret it. You could buy without fear of being stuck with a dinosaur, for sure.

Since you live in Canada, you should be able to go to a Staples, Best Buy or Chapters/Indigo (if there are any in your area) and see both the Kobo Libra (7") and Kobo Forma (8") in person. The Libra is $200 Canadian and the Forma is currently on sale for $250 Canadian at these stores. None of these stores appear to have the Kindle Oasis in stock, however.

Issue is the virus. Stores closed for now. Only pickup from online sales. I guess I can always return it if I’m not happy. This might be the way to go at this time.
Thank u |

if by flicker you mean the full screen flash refresh then yes, all e-ink does that. its not very noticable after a while and the default on Kobo is every few pages not every page
To avoid that you have to go for LCD tablets, then you get shorter battery life and cant read outside ( but you do get full colour... ) |

I actually like the refresh more than the fancy animations on apps and programs. Means I realise when I've sleepily changed the page, so I have it set to every page. I dislike ghosting more. Pressing both buttons at the same time on a Kobo Libra refreshes the page. I used to do it after adding a note, but they have fixed that source of ghosting.

If you find 8" too larger and 6" too small, then go for the Kobo Libra H2O as it's 7". |

note also, because we are dealing with a viewing AREA, each one inch upgrade adds about 40% more text space, not 20%.

If you want to get an idea of the various sizes without visiting the store you can use Screen sizes in our wiki. I suggest using a newspaper with text on it and cut out a piece the various sizes you are interested in. You can also compare area on the wiki site and other screen features.
