Your maths is intriguingly eccentric. The poll currently shows 13 votes FOR keeping the triangles, 5 for removing them. Back when I went to school, we were taught that 13 is a larger number than 5.

Ohh goodness, how quickly you forget:

"Don't use" = "No need"

"Don't care" = "No need"

Thus, the actual score is 5 to 0.

That's, like, infinity percent difference. (Google it)

Dump the triangles!!

Thanks for reminding me that trying to hold a rational discussion with the fanatically obsessed is a pointless waste of my precious time. Arrivederla

What's the big deal? Just give us the OPTION to keep the page as uncluttered and clean as possible.

From the voting so far, it is overwhelmingly obvious that the Calibre reading public agrees with the above humble request.
In case you don't understand how projects work, everything is done on priorities. They have to be as there is never enough time to do everything. The priorities are determined by things like how many people something affects, how many people are asking for something, is something actually broken and needs to be fixed before anyone can use it. And, especially for open source projects, is the change something the developer actively wants. Adding an option to not show the triangles in the reader becomes a low priority (not broken, not preventing use, there is a workaround, basically cosmetic, not being asked for by many people [your creative accounting aside]).

One of Kovid's favourite phrases here is "patches are welcome". If you think this is important, and "Super simple", then you are welcome to take a copy of the source code, make the appropriate changes, test them and then create a patch. At the least, raise a proper enhancement request. That will make sure Kovid knows it is desired and act as a reminder when looking at what changes he will do next. It doesn't guarantee it will be done, but it is more likely than complaints in a forum.

That is NOT part of the poll.
That was a reply to those of use that pointed out the poll was lacking in other responses.
I also don't equate my missing response choices to those as equivalences .

I don't use triangles, but I think they should remain.

You really need to focus your request. Your first post and your poll advocate removing the triangles. It isn't until post 29 that you make a sensible request to make showing the triangles an option. Seems like a reasonable request. Then 3 posts later you are back to making idiotic arguments as quoted, switching back to "Dump the Triangles" and explaining how everyone in your world somehow agrees with you.

I suspect at some point in the future Kovid may indeed make the triangles optional. This page explains how to submit an enhancement request so your request might get placed on Kovid's radar.

A Don't Care option on forum polls is indeed a rarity, here or elsewhere, even non-binary multiple choice polls.

Maybe I should run a poll in the Lounge --- Should Don't Care be a mandatory option in polls: Yes; No; Don't Care

Again, not one of my choices.
To me, Not Important is not the same as Don't care or Would Never Use.
I see polls everyday, where the choices do not align with my thinking.
In many cases, it was either oversight ot space limits.

This poll wanted demanded a Binary Answer

"Dump the triangles!!"
=
"Give user the option not to show (please)."

Perhaps it's harder to implement than I am thinking.

I'm hoping that someone's ego is not in the way. "Gee, I made these cool triangles, and certain rude people are complaining?? But I love my triangles...."

Just do it!!

(please)

Someone's ego? I believe when it comes to the viewer at this point there is only one, Kovid did the rewrite of the viewer. Making passive aggressive BS statements like the one above is not the way to persuade Kovid, calibre's creator and programmer, to make this change.

Instead of slinging thinly concealed insults, I supplied you the link to submit an enhancement request, have you done this yet?

I'm all for the triangles in the margin except for your copy of Calibre where I am all for the triangles on top of the text.

Ohh my gosh. Almost Christmas, and you have to be mean. Just plain not nice.

I simply am requesting the option to keep it clean...

If you were simply requesting the option you would have submitted a request according to the information in the link provided. I may be missing it but I don't see an official Enhancement Request submitted.

Here is the pertinent paragraph from the linked page describing the procedure.

"You can also use the bug tracker to request new features. To mark a bug report as a request for a new feature just add [Enhancement] to the subject. Please remember that calibre is a highly complex piece of software with millions of users, as such, the priorities of calibre's developers may not match your own and your feature request may well be ignored. Since calibre is open source, one sure way to get your feature request more attention is to implement it yourself and attach the patch implementing it to the bug report."
