I'd also recommend the three Caliban books written by Roger McBride Allen. The books are worthy sci-fi. He manages to capture the Asimov vibe, but he is a better writer. Unfortunately not available as ebooks.

Asimov used to be my all time favorite author...and I still love him. But I think ultimately he is more of an idea man than a great story teller.

Same here. I reread Night fall and other stories so many times. He's not consistent.

I think like a lot of writers of his time period, he didn't age quite as well. Writers like Doc Smith and James Hogan have the same issues, i.e. some of the assumptions of the time are embedded in the story and no longer ring true. Some of Heinlien's stories have this problem as well.

I would say that Asimov was a very prolific writer and IMPO, his Black Widow mystery short stories have aged much better, perhaps because with mysteries, we can accept such stories as a picture of what was going on at that specific time, but with SF, when certain norms are no longer the case, then it just rings false. It's hard to imagine a future where women act like it's the 40's and 50's (Doc Smith), or people still smoke and drink in a business environment (James Hogan) or people still use slide rules (Heinlein).

I only pay for Prime and it's been available since day one without doing anything.
It is also available separately from PRIME. You don't need a subscription because you're paying with your eyeballs.
