Returning to the OP because I watched the first three episodes of the Mandalorian and was quite impressed. My personal frame of reference doesn't include the iconic Westerns, so I thought of it as "Firefly meets Star Wars", but either way, it was better than I expected. I have spoken.

Firefly was a personal favorite. No idea how that only lasted one season. Just a great series.

Bad time slot and showing the episodes out of order.

Yep. It was basically purposely sabotaged by network execs who despised scifi of any kind. Dead before it aired, really.

QUOTE: Leebase is correct. Aliens is better than Alien

Well, it's OT, but I saw Aliens as a first-run cinema film, which happened to be showing during school break. The Cinema was full of high school kids making a racket until the first attack of the alien. Dead silence followed by some very nervous noises. I must have been 30 at the time, the movie frightened the bejasus out of me, I can tell you. Specially the tongue with teeth. And the last time I had been frightened by a movie was "It Came from Outer Space" back in the 50s, when I was about 11 or 12. I never thought "Aliens" had the shock quotient of the first movie.

Also saw Star Wars as a first run cinema feature. Loved it. (Oh, and 2001 A Space Odyssey in Cinemascope as a first run, in a big old-style cinema. Loved that, too.)

I can't really be bothered by all the spinoffs of Star Wars; saw the first three, all in real cinemas, and I am happy enough to let the Star Wars universe rest.
