My last Kindle? #TeamVoyage - Page 3

There is a reason we've had four versions of the Paperwhite and one of the Voyage. I bought a Voyage, returned to my Paperwhite and gave the Voyage to a college student. I bought the Oasis 2, which in my opinion is related to the Oasis 1 in name only. I kept if for two days and returned it to Amazon.

Amazon Kindle has made changes to their ereader to justify a premium price on new models but they have yet to "improve" on the Paperwhite as a reading device.

FOR YOU. A larger than 6" screen is an improvement for you. Not for everyone. Some people like screens larger than 6", some like screens smaller than 6", and some think 6" screens are just right.

Indeed. For me, a 6" screen is fine. But I'd prefer something a little bit on the smaller side.

Just got a Voyage (preowned - but totally Mint)..

This thing is bloody gorgeous!
What a screen! Amazing contrast and device ergonomics and feel.

It's early still, but I already love the thing..

(it is a shame however that Amazon has never added a "disable the touchscreen for page turns" option since there are the PagePress buttons)

All the more reason to jailbreak.

There is an add-on available that disables the touch screen.

I wonder how many people who are out there who would be smitten with a Voyage if only they experienced one in person, but have not yet had that experience.

Can it be downgraded?

I'd be happy to JB - had done that to my Paperwhite way back when - but I thought you were hosed once it got to a higher FW than JB allows, no?

(I'm admittedly out of the loop on this - sorry for dumb questions)

For quite a few years, Kindles can only downgrade firmware over a cable connected to the internal serial port. It involves soldering tiny wires or finicky care maintaining connection, so few try that route.

The Voyage is still a great Kindle, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I will say I don’t find it quite as comfortable to hold due to the edges.

My older paperwhite had nice wraparound rubber on the sides whereas the voyage has a seam in the casing on the sides.

Not a fan of that.

You might want to try the amazon origami cover. The back wraps up around the sides.

Can you cut the front off without creating a really bad sharp side edge from the case?

So bummed I can't find anything like this anywhere on the Internet (been looking for like an hour now)

The origami cover opens top to bottom, so there will be no sharp side edge if you cut off the front.

Are those origami cases soft plastic, hard plastic, rubber?
I’m wondering how they feel to touch and how the “grippiness” is?

When closed, the back is hard plastic, the front is rubbery plastic.

When open, the back is felt.

When open, the formerly front cover can be folded into a nice, stable, portrait oriented stand.

When the front cover is folded all the way to the back, the sleep switch is not accessible without lifting the cover. That was only rarely a problem for me in the 3 years that I used the cover. For the past 2 years I only use the Voyage at home, and it has not been in a cover during that time.
