Honestly it’s probably better to stay logged in to the four library account and relegate the fifth one to side loading from the computer. Not ideal but it’s going to cause fewer issues overall

That sounds like a good idea. The four-library-in-one-Overdrive account has probably a bigger catalogue of books.

Not sure what you mean though about side loading from computer. I know how to sideload apps from my computer onto my Android phone. But I don't know how to sideload encrypted epubs from my laptop onto my Kobo (with or without Calibre).

It depends on what that library uses, their site should have some sort of instructions. I'd imagine it'll end up being handled by Adobe Digital Editions, which is fairly painless to set up.

1) Get adobe digital editions (and an account if you don't already)

2) open ADE on your computer

3) plug your Kobo in, you should be able to right click on it and authorize it.

-That just gets your Kobo ready to accept books that use Adobe's encryption- it's not a guide for getting books from that library.

I can't help you with that one library because I don't know how they're handling ebooks. But either their website, or going in to speak with a librarian should get you sorted there. All you need is for them to confirm it's ADE that handles their ebooks on your computer, and then how to download the ebook.

After that follow whatever instructions they give you, and you should be able to drag and drop the ebook on your kobo.

*note* without plugins to Calibre that we can not discuss here you wont be able to use Calibre to manage these books very much / at all. And you'd be stuck with epub.

I recently discovered, upon acquiring a Tolino reader that can access the library website directly, that my library no longer has multiple login options, just the library card sign in. I hadn't noticed on my computer because I had long ago checked a box to keep me logged in. So I have no idea how long ago the sign in screen changed.

I opened the library website on my computer using a different browser (not the one where my login was saved) and it was just like on the Tolino - no way to sign in but with a library card number. This is not an issue for me as I don't belong to multiple libraries. However, I did notice that there is no longer an option to stay logged in.

Other than the sign in process nothing else about using the library has changed. I can still get books by sideloading. So Droopy shouldn't have issues with sideloading.

Yeah I just can't give instructions on how to get the books from that library to his computer. There are too many variables, and to be honest I have little interest in learning how to do this with systems my libraries don't use. It's also bound to be a simpler process than getting multiple libraries to work on a Kobo, which I wanted to learn well enough that I could 1) do it, 2) help others to do it 3) criticize the hell out of the Overdrive app and experience.

On my library site nothing seems to have changed except the login. Loan download on the computer is still working like it always did.

I belong to only one library so i don't have the issue of trying to get books from multiple libraries at once.

In case Droopy needs it, here is an Overdrive instruction page about downloading books to your PC and using ADE to send the books to an ereader:

I guess I'm at an impasse. You see, I use Linux. Adobe digital editions comes in Windows and Mac version but not for Linux. I don't wanna grow wrinkles trying to get ADE working on Linux.

Can’t you run ADE in WINE? I can’t believe it’s so system intensive nor that it requires something outside of an emulated system to function. All it’s doing is verifying a certification and decrypting if it passes. Yes this is once again a simplification of the process but really it’s stuff computers have been capable of for longer than ADE has existed.

Though I don’t know what kind of headache WINE is to get running

This instruction worked fine for me. No (additional) wrinkles.
