The eBook reader didn't widen my world in terms of genre (I still read a large variety of books but still don't read science fiction ).

However, I do read a lot of books that would've sat in my "to be read" pile forever in paper. I used to buy a lot of paper books out of interest but would keep putting them aside simply because of the font type/size or size of the book . (I often start new books at night when I am tired from a dy at work). Because all books look/feel the same, this factor has disappeared.

Also my delivery of the NY Times-Late news updates and Newsweek has increased my reading of current events beyond the local paper.

There's always the Aeneid, though. I have to agree with everyone who has started reading the classics again because of their reader (Kindle in my case).

You could always see if you could download the ebook version of Ass-reducing Techniques for Dummies(TM) and get a workout while reading.

Mine has - I could never get some of the books in India (which is not a very popular market for SF/Fantasy)

Mine has in the sense that I buy more now. My issue with p-books has been one of storage space, so I would either get it from the library (which I still sometimes do) or buy it at the used bookstore and then sell it back when I'm done. Now, knowing that I can spend the same money and not have to sell it back but I can keep it, it's made me much more interested in buying.

As many have said before, I am reading classics (to my children as well) such as Call of the Wild and Great Expectations that I probably would not have read. Also, I am reading samples of books on my Kindle that I would not have read previously. I would have simply read the reviews and made a decision whereas now I can actually read the first chapter and make a different (not necessarily better mind you) decision based on the actual text of the book.

I find I am now reading several books at once. I would never have done that in the past. One reason for this is that I was in the middle of a book on my Blackberry that I cant get to work on my kindle because it is a secure mobipocket. So now I am concurrently reading two on my blackberry and one on my kindle.

I would say it is definitely has broadened the books available to me. Granted, most works are not available as ebooks (yet), but as others have pointed out, there are lots of ebooks available that are not currently in print. Also, Baen's Free Library has gotten me to try authors and books I would not necessarily have bought had I seen them in the book store. (Eric Flint's Ring of Fire Series is rapidly becoming an addiction for me).

Well, duh!!! So that's where I've been going wrong !!

Seriously, though, what I was trying to say was that, since I read the Odyssey (in the English translation!), I enjoyed it so much that I thought it was about time that I learned latin to be able to have a go at reading (other) classics in the original.

(Gosh, aren't some people picky??)

Yes, to truly understand Shakespeare it must be read in the "original" Klingonease too.

My reading horizons have definitely widened - in part because I've been looking all over the Internet for (free) reading material to put on the PRS-505. One great discovery (you probably all know about it) is the Internet Archive at http://www.archive.org/index.php, which has tons of books and other stuff in a variety of formats. I also get lots of periodicals, blogs, white papers, classic literature, et cetera, of far greater variety than my previous paper reading.

Good for you! Latin is a wonderful language, and for poetry especially, has to be read in the original to fully appreciate it. Stick with it - it can feel like you're going backwards at times, but the end results are well worthwhile. If you get stuck and need any help, don't hesitate to ask.
