Thanks Bob. Good feedback. I am not uncomfortable with pearl scripting but it is more of a time factor/extra step for me. From what I have read here it sounds like the scripts are tested a proven so it will not take a lot of work to get them going.

Glad I could help. But, really... getting the scripts on your PC and set up is the only thing that will take time. Probably less than an hour if you follow the guide (or do you use Linux)? After that running the command after downloading a book takes probably less than 1 minute.

Charadeur I have both the PRS-505 and the Kindle. I also researched and asked questions last year, and decided to go with the PRS-505, which I received on December 4th, 2007. This past October, I bought the Kindle after owning my PRS-505 for 10 months. I've never regretted my original choice because I love my 505. I love the ease of use of the PRS-505. I love the ease of checking out library books. I love the looks of the PRS-505. I read mostly fiction & historical romance, so I have not ran into major problems finding books to read. as for cost of books, I mostly buy my historical romance from Sony, the price of the books for that gerne are not that much off from other stores. But mostly I buy Lit or Mobi from Books-on-Board & Fictionwise. I dont have major issue converting. But now I also have a Kindle (3 weeks now), I love it too. I love the fact that content are cheaper. I love the fact that I can get a sample of the book and if I choose to buy the book, just turn on Whispernet & click buy from the sample menu of the book. I love the ease of the amazon book store. I dont know if having a dictionary is a plus, since I have not found that I need to use it. Both readers have their pros & cons. Which ever one you choose will be great because they are both fantastic. I recommend both!!

If anyone's curious, this is the thread that got me ignored by Ricky. I admit it might sound a little snarkier than I intended. I meant it as a good-natured tease. Sadly she ignored me without even asking if that was how I meant it. I'm not particularly miffed by the whole thing.

I'd like to highlight that, when reading responses to this particular point, you need to try & work out if the replying author was responding to what was written, i.e. "on your Kindle" or to what was meant, i.e. "on your Sony".

This notebook is windows the other one is Ubuntu LINUX. I would probably do pearl on the Ubuntu since it is all ready installed there. I have 15 years in IT so I will be OK with the scripts. I might even take you up on adding the LINUX section to the Wiki.

You can blame Oprah! She had it on her show and now everyone wants one.

Well, that's what you get for waiting so long. When I bought mine, they shipped it the next day. But ... trust Oprah to screw it up for those people who are late to the party.

Gee I may have to buy the Sony too while I wait that long. Dang that Oprah and her dumb code was not valid anymore so I didn't even get to save the $50.

Thank you everyone for the push. In the end the content/pricing at Amazon won out over the sleek design and more open format of the Sony. But I may not be done as if the wife likes the Kindle I might order a Sony so we each have one.

Congrats!! I ordered a second Kindle for my mom (so we could share books) on the last day of the Oprah discount...although Amazon said it wouldn't arrive until Nov 24-28, it arrived last week

You may want to consider an extended warranty from squaretrade as the Amazon warranty is for 1 year and doesn't cover accidents. I usually don't buy extended warranties but did so in this case given my Kindle goes everywhere with me (and accidents happen) --and-- the Kindle's only been out a year so long term reliability is not proven.

Actually, we do it not because of the price, but because of the lack of DRM when all is said and done. Sometimes it is due to price when other eBook shops have sales like Cyberread (Mobipocket format), BooksOnBoard, or Fictionwise.

To get content to a Sony from MS Reader format or Mobipocket is very easy. Just run the program to remove the DRM, then run the other program to convert to LRF. Very easy and does not take long at all.

Speaking of warranty, if the Kindle breaks and it's past the warranty, you'll have to purchase a new Kindle. But if the Sony breaks past the warranty, you can get it fixed for a price.

I have heard that Kindle has offered people who broke there Kindle a new one at 50% price.

I think there was a thread here somewhere about someone "complaining" about it.
