as i suspected. ( but I am not in usa so I cannot directly test)
with Send to Kindle, it asks you to choose a device but then the sent document appears on all devices. That I can attest to.

We have an oldish Fire tablet that we use only for grandchild, and I regularly have to go & remove documents from its carousel that i "sent" only to my own tablet.

I am 99% sure the same thing happens with bought books, I don't often buy kindle books, but I usually "buy" one of the Kindle First free books each month and that shows up on all our devices. If I remember to do so, I will check that when 1st June comes around to get to 100% sure.

PS what is more annoying.
if you send "doc1" to "device 1" using send to kindle, then send the same "doc1" also to device 2 using same method, you end up with duplicate copies of "doc1" on both devices. do that many times over before noticing, like I did, and its a mess to clean up

When you buy a book from amazon, the device you select to send it to is the one that will automatically pull it the next time it is connected to the internet.

To read it it on any other device on the same amazon account, find it in the All tab on that device.

At least as far as personal documents and purchased books, they're not delivered to all devices for me. They're in the cloud so it shows on all devices if library view is set to ALL instead of DOWNLOADED. However, the files only get downloaded automatically on the device I specifically send them to.

Sort of. Amazon sends the book to your default device that you specified. Then the covers are sent to the other kindle devices; and must be selected for reading on the other kindles before it is downloaded. A check-mark on the cover indicates that the book has been downloaded.

This was pointed to me long ago & applies to library books as well for the purchased books; it is a 'convenience' or liability depending on one's circumstances. My default is on my pc & it is a convenience to have the book on the kindle or fire hdx as that is where I read the books in kindle format or epub as was mostly the case.

When I sent the library book to my PC, I saw it in my library for "all", but not for "downloaded".

So the "Send to device" only matters for kindle EInk devices?

There’s rarely a need to use “Send to Device” at all. As stated, when you buy or borrow a book it’ll get sent to your default device or app. On all other devices and apps, the book will be visible in the Cloud library from where it can be downloaded if desired.

The only time I ever use “Send to Device” personally is when I see that there’s an updated version of a book available and I want to send it to my Kindle.

In a similar situation myself and kind of wondering, is there an equivalent for "KoboUtilities" for any other kind of device? Always found that plugin to be very convenient, especially backing up my reading progress to calibre and mass restoring it easily for those unfortunate cases where your database gets corrupted and needs to be reset, or when you switch to a new device or w/e.

Well, I'm currently kind of on the fence between getting the new Nook Glowlight Plus (for the bigger screen) or try to snag a 1st edition H2O like the one I'm replacing (so I still have a SD slot)

No, there aren't any equivalents. The biggest reason is that few of the devices expose the data in a suitable manner. I also have a tolino epos. There is nothing visible that can be used. The other problem is that it needs someone interested with the appropriate skills, or willing to learn them. There was someone looking at doing the same thing for Sony devices, but, he seems to have lost interest. The Sony's were the only other device that I know of that exposed most of the data when it is connected to a PC.
