Argh, does anyone else have the problem that author names are now displayed as "FirstName LastName" when you've edited the metadata (using Calibre) and changed the name (and sort name) to "LastName, FirstName"?
By itself that's merely annoying, but what makes it aggravating is that I've downloaded many public domain books and the author's real name is at the end, as in "LastName, FirstName (RealFirst RealLast)" so now it's displayed as "FirstName (RealFirst RealLast) LastName". But I just noticed that some are still displayed as "LastName, FirstName (RealLast, RealFirst)", note the ordering of the real name, because I haven't been consistent and sometimes have the parenthesized real name in sort order. I guess I should fix the others. But even so, the ones with the real name will be displayed in sort order format and the others in "normal" order format, or whatever you'd call it. |

I am glad I already made collections of read and unread because some of my read are not marked read. When I view my read collection there is a banner across those that are read so I can then click and choose mark read.

I've had the update for several days and didn't have the "read" filter. It froze on me day before yesterday so I had to restart it, then again yesterday. Still no filter. Then last night it appeared, along with the wonky author name problem I posted above.

Do people who want or use the "read" filter thing not use Calibre, or not use multiple libraries with Calibre?
My main Calibre library has everything that's on my Kindle. When I finish reading a book, in Calibre I right click on it and copy it to my other Calibre library for books I've finished. I use the regular copy, not the delete after copy one because the latter doesn't delete it from the Kindle. Then after I've copied it to the other library I hit the delete key and delete it from both the library and the Kindle. |

I mean even Windows 10 lets you say "this is an expensive connection, plz do not bomb me with 5GiB of malfunctioning feature updates over this link". But phones and e-readers? Nooooo... (Sorry, pet peeve. ![]() The real problem is that Amazon is fundamentally a marriage of a retailer and a huge cloud computing company, and software distribution is very much in the hands of the cloud computing side of things -- they are, after all, very good at it: if it ever fails it's headline news all over the world, after all. The alpha-beta incremental rollout scheme *works*, and works something like 99.99999% of the time. Unfortunately they don't entirely grasp that limited-battery portable devices are not always-on, that not everyone even *has* always-on Internet connectivity, and that alpha-beta rollouts/rollbacks work better when they relate to features that are invisible to users (and also it works better when automatic rollback is implemented, which it very much isn't for Kindles, which makes every upgrade a heart-in-mouth am-I-about-to-lose-everything event, at least for me). At least this one requires a restart to appear: page flip's sudden appearance felt really weird, popping up abruptly when all I'd done was go online to download a new book... |

On kindles this can be mitigated somewhat by creating the update blocking directory.

I also have seen no more mention of it failing other than the post you reference. Of course, it could be defeated someday. If it is, I hope the warnings are more definitive and widespread. |

The update asked to be installed last night when I was reading and turned on my wi-fi for a few minutes to sync. I did the update, it restarted, but there isn't a read/not read filter and I don't see any changes.....yet.

Hm, maybe it's not on the PW4 yet, I do know I got some kind of update last night though.
