The only thing I currently use USB-C for is keyboards, I would like a standard, not multiple ones. If USB-C is the current latest/greatest, fine but stick to it for a least a few years.

I admit to not reading much of this thread, but my opinion re the original post is no and no. The things I'd like to add to the Kindle PW is an SD port and a headphone jack and text to speech.

As far as charging away from home, can't most cars charge a Kindle? (I don't drive.) Or maybe head into a cafe and use their phone charging facilities? Or be more prepared!

I run into issues with loading my kindle Paperwhite and Fire on my home computer with various cables, so I wouldn't mind an upgraded cable option. Otherwise it's not a big issue for me. I like the waterproofing feature available in the new Oasis and also have to second the text to speech option.

That's somewhat helpful. My tablet charging cord is currently like that. Unfortunately the only thing it seems to accomplish is assuring that I'm going to grab it the wrong way first. Every, single. time.

I fully realize that this is very much a first world problem, by the way.

Early days, I had a problem orienting the USB connection to my devices, aggravated in that it wasn't consistent even within model lines (Sony X50, that would be you). But years later I seem to have mastered the gentle tentative test connection so I get the necessary negative feedback before I've whammed in the plug the wrong way, even in the dark. So, not a big deal.

You are more coordinated than I am! Even if I know I have the plug right side up I still I have to turn on a light to get it lined up correctly.

Wait till you add a Kobo to your collection. For some reason they decided to turn the device's USB port the opposite direction of everyone else's. Just for fun, I guess.

Depends on the device which orientation the micro-USB port uses.
