I think Oprah's annoucement is a good thing, it has exposed the kindle to more people, and while not all of them buy one, they are at least going to be more aware of the ebook market that is out there. Some of them might even purchase other devices such as a Sony ereader. More people buying might even cause some lower prices! (Hey I can hope!)

I have to agree with rhadin. When Oprah recommends something, the sheep go out and buy even if they don't use. And if this causes Amazon to be able to get more exclusive deals, then it's not going to be good for reading overall. There are more devices other then the Kindle and if Amazon continues to steal books, then that bodes ill for eBooks overall.

That's your opinion... and one I strongly disagree with. The more Amazon can demonstrate that ebooks sell, the more publishers will do the work to create ebook versions. The more ebook versions available the more available for all ebook readers.

Remember, a rising tide raises all boats. So, if a small percentage of these new ebooks are exclusive to the Kindle for a few months in the grand scheme of things who cares. The market is growing.

Me thinks he doth protest to much. Would you complain if Sony got some exclusive deals too?

Well I think it is great that ebooks are getting the publicity, However I think if she wanted to tout the Kindle as her favorite gadget then she could of at least mentioned some alternatives could have made a whole show on the different devices.

Hi JJ!
You are assuming she is really touting the Kindle as her 'favorite gadget'. Does no one else get the feeling she is being paid for this? Of course she is. Thats why there will be no mention of alternate devices.

Are you saying that celebrities endorse product strictly for the money, and don't use or believe in the product they are endorsing? Certainly this can't be true. And certainly not about Oprah.

I don't thinks she is being paid to endorse the Kindle. Bezos has had a relationship with her for many years but on the whole I think she just fell in love with it like many of us who own it have.
