Math; Physics; Biochem articles

I have a Sony Reader PRS-505

I use a different card for each subject. I use mostly Memory Stick Pro Duo cards because they seem to draw less juice when I leave them in the reader.

I have to read journal articles in Biochem on a daily basis so my assistant loads them on a card for me.

For fun I do math. I have the pure math topics (algebras, topology, analysis, reference) on individual cards and a myriad of applied math topics on another card. Most of my physics is on another card, but applied math and physics crosses over a lot. I include other topics on these cards like engineering, game theory, economic theory, etc.

I have another card that holds the humanities: literature, psycholgy, philosopy, sociology, fiction, non-fiction, self-help, etc. Though I must admit there is not much on this card... a little Tennyson, Whitman and Plato, the Four-Hour Work Week and the Cardio-Free Diet.

It isn't a perfect science; I have lost cards.

There you have it,

Mike

I keep everything on the Kindle organized in Folders. I have Fictionwise Purchased Books, I have Amazon Purchased Books, I have Misc (for free books and other etailers), and Periodicals.

I have a couple of hundred books in there. I back the whole thing up to a folder named "Kindle" on the PC. The books are not stored anywhere else. The Kindle connects to the wall/computer daily so I'm always to browse for my next book, and then just sort by title and I can find it with the press of a button. If I convert books but the Kindle is not on, I save them to a "To Load" folder. I leave the originals in the "Originals" folder (see how that works? ).

BTW I store nothing in the Kindle, everything's in the memory card (4 gig so far). I have a lot more of that in books but that stays in my 32 gig thumb drive that I got just for books.

I'm still waiting for folder support for my Cybook. But right know, my collection isn't huge, so I keep everything in the Cybook.

The most important and "permanent" literature in my Cybook's internal memmory, everything else in my 2GB SD card.

A while back, I put about 30 books on the Kindle and a half-dozen on the Sony reader. I've since downloaded some additional books directly to the Kindle either from Amazon.com or using one of the guides from MobileRead or Feedbooks. (Reminder to self -- copy those to the other media for backup!)

I have not installed the Sony software (though I do have calibre installed) and have not registered the Sony Reader with the Sony store. I also have not upgraded the Sony Reader with the latest update adding ePub support and the facility to delete books without connecting to the PC. As soon as I finish reading one of the books that was on the Reader, I'm going to register it and upgrade it.

After I finish reading a book on the Kindle, I don't delete it until I've backed up its .mbp file (which contains my highlighting & notes) to the hard drives. I know that Amazon says they'll keep that info on their servers and return it to me if I download the book again, but (1) I trust my own backups more than theirs, (2) not all my books came from Amazon in the first place and (3) I don't turn on the Whispernet antenna very often.

While I have SD cards to use with both readers, I have not attempted to load up the cards with the entire library -- just too much bother. I'm gladly accepting small SD cards from family members who are buying ones with more capacity for their digital camera.
Elsi, I'm with you. That is precisely the way I have loaded my 505.

I have about 100 unread books on the Reader, a few reference books and some pictures of my kids.

It depends - I voted for keeping everything, but it does vary by device. On the 2 tablets, everything - in both .lit and Mobipocket. Also a shedload of PDF's. On the Sony 505 - everything (at least all I have downloaded or converted so far). About 400 books at present. I was deleting read stuff - but it all fits, with space to spare, so why not keep it. It does take a while to get going after a sync - but I can live with that as it is normally loaded and ready to go.

PDA's - a subset. On the Windows Mobiles and Palms, it takes time to load a Mobipocket or MSReader library if you have much more than a hundred odd files. Especially from SD cards. In the case of the iPod Touch - just a few files - something to read when I am in a queue at the bank or chemist.

The 505 has most of the main books that I browse (textbooks and Sci-Fi magazines - and some authors) in collections.

Of course, I have the master collections on my big desktop and on the NAS disk on the house LAN. Plus some big CD-ROM collections (about 10K books) not all of which I will read - but I know they are available if I ever decide that I need to inhale project gutenberg en masse
