I can't answer, because there's no real "Mysteries" category. "Crime" and "thrillers" are completely different in my opinion. I mostly read mysteries, and mostly the "cozy" type (those that are not excessively gory or excessively sexual).

"crime" and "mysteries" are just different names for the same thing at least in bookshops. One is used in UK and on in US but I always forget which one is which.

Uh, no. (Former librarian here.) "Crime" often includes titles such as police procedurals, analysis of historical crimes, etc. "Mystery" is more often understood to be fiction which includes some type of murder, the solving of which is central to the plot. "Mystery" tilts to the puzzle-oriented plot device whereas "crime" is much broader and often includes fiction and nonfiction.

I agree that this is one way to look at it. But if you go to a bookshop that uses the category mystery instead of crime (US shops I believe) and do not have mystery sub genres you will find police procedurals under mystery.

This is the bookstore that I've spent most of my life lurking about in (btw highly recommended -- there are branches, but the mother store is in Portland, Oregon). "Crime" and "Mystery" are separate sections.

Yes. Bookstores I'm familiar with have a Mystery section devoted to crime fiction. True crime stories tend to be shelved separately.

I think most folks here, when they think fiction genre, will think "Mystery", not "Crime" as describing what they read.

When the machines here misbehave, my SO says "You wait till Dennis gets home! He has a screwdriver!" and claims near 100% success in getting them to work as expected.

When they still don't work, well, I do have a screwdriver...

I voted for Romance, but that's not really it. I read everything, Sci Fi, Historical, etc. but mostly Paranormal/Fantasy. I didn't see a catagory that fit.

In 1995, when I had no clue that Astra means a Star, a friend of mine invited me to join him in the first text based online LPmud game, Genesis. I didn't have computer, I never played computer games, let alone online where you can team up with people from all over the world! I didn't have even a remote idea of what is roleplaying, or what the word means He told me I have to think a nickname for the game. The request nonplussed me. I asked him if I can use my RL name and got a weird look from him. So, at this moment in the back of my mind a line from TV show, book, movie, radio...whatever, I don't know, came up:
Quote:
Astra, Astra, Tulip listening
Spies? Pilots? No clue. Both names are names of flowers in Russian. So, I choose Astra.
As I said, very earthbound origin
