My car's black and German. I'm pretty sure they go faster even than red ones.

'Tis a beaut, pshrynk. Is it there, with you, or "on order" (we had to wait 6 months for our "Wolfie" to get here from time of order). Also, you have to name it, or I'll think you're weird. Wolfie's girlfriend, the sat-nav voice, is Lady Penelope (or Madam Pirouette when in French guise - "Vous êtes arrivé").

Mmm, cars.

Cheers,
Marc (we also have the "shopping cart"/dogs' car, who is also German, is small, and is called "Scruffy")
Picked it up yesterday. Put it in the garage after a brief "check-in" ride. Promptly got the driveway dug up by the never ending, mind numbing, pain in the arse, what the hell is all that dust doing in my pool, I don't care if the sidewalk is torn up ya little bastard, quit walking in my flower garden, just who is going to pay for that broken pier, if I trim the bushes back any more, I'll be pulling them out by the roots, how do I cross the street in this mess, and did I mention never ending road construction. They say that they'll have it re-poured by tomorrow, tomorrow meaning, just after coffee break whenever we damn well feel like it, and that we can't drive on it for five days after that.

Her name is Bella.

Hmmm, Bella doesnt exactly sound German... you should have named it Heidi or Gretchen or something like that. If it had been a Ferrari or another italian car, I could have gone for Bella.

Personally, I have a Citroén C4 that usually goes under the name of "God damn piece of s**t car!" because it breaks down all the time

If it had been a nice C4, I would have named it Zelda

"Wolfie" is short for "Wolfgang". "Scruffy" isn't short for anything (well, physically he's very short) - he's just the scruffy runabout that the dogs can shake all their sand in - but is just named, with no real connection, after a character in Futurama.

We've previously had Moe, Scoobs II, Forrest, Scoobs, Bruce, Damien and Effie (and a Celica before that which didn't have a name because the Loved One had bought it before I came on board).

Cheers,
Marc

I just traded in Dot, the Miata, so named because when my wife and i were riding in her we were Whacko (me) Yacko (her) and Dot. we also traded in Clark as in Kent, the Superman blue BMW 540i, which looked plain and simple, but would blow your doors off if challenged. before that were Darwin III, II, and I (from the bumperfish i had on each one), Professor Moriarity, Midlifecrisis, Gelber, and Gremmy. There were a few cars with no name, but they were all driven by ex-wives.

I used to name cars. Galileo, Leonardo and Kepler were all named. Kepler (a VW golf) developed some pretty severe electrical system problems that were never acknowledged by the dealer, resulting in my general disenchantment with cars. They don't get names anymore.

Slight revision to my above comment:

We had leased a Honda Civic Hybrid, and when the lease ran out last spring, we weren't able to afford to buy the car. On the other hand, my dad was in the market for a car, and heard that we were going to be turning ours in. He'd been driving a minivan that he'd bought when he had a job delivering mail (post) that didn't work out. He was interested in a hybrid, and knew we'd taken good care of ours, so he paid the remainder (or whatever it's called). And he was so glad to get a good deal on a hybrid, that he gave us the van. Which is white. It has a number of little foibles (besides the horrible gas mileage). We somewhat affectionately call it "The White Elephant."

"Moe" was our biggest disappointment. Everything about the vehicle was perfect...except for all the faults it developed (the biggest being the 2 month wait while an entire new engine was sent from Solihull, UK to Wagga Wagga, Oz after the old one imploded halfway between Holbrook and Tarcutta, in the middle of nowhere on the motorway). We loved Moe, but Moe was a dirty, cheating whore to failure.

If ever you think about buying a Land Rover, punch yourself in the face repeatedly until unconscious. If you wake up remembering why you punched yourself in the face, do it again, and keep doing it until you forget. Trust me, it'll probably be less painful in the long run.

One of the most reliable cars we ever owned was a Proton Satria that we called "Bruce" - a very cheap "driveaway-no-more-to-pay", Malaysian small car. We never had a worry with it, and we caned the hell out of it.

Cheers,
Marc (who names all his cameras too, amongst other things)

Oddly enough, one of the most reliable cars we've ever owned is a Hyundai. Going on 9 years with minimal trouble. Despite not having a name (other than "the black car").

Been wrestling with ePub conversions of my novels for the last week. I've about got the problem licked... half the books to go, then I'll have to get them on the website. Work, work, work, work, work, work...

My current and most reliable car is also a Hyundai, a 2000 Tiburon. Never gave 'im a name, though I do tend to think of him as a "he." I'm shooting for another 8 years out of 'im, hopefully long enough to have a shot at some decent electric cars to replace him with. Of course, I remember in 1980 thinking that same thought about the year 2000...

I wouldn't count on their working out fuel cell cars anytime soon. There's better promise in improving battery technology right now. And batteries can be plenty efficient, especially for 80% of the driving in the U.S. right now.

Yes, Chevy plans to introduce the Volt in 2010. But personally, GM has already built up so much negative-Karma over the last 30 years, with its SUV and Hummer lines, and killing the EV-1, that it'll take a LOT to get me to buy from them again. I'd rather hold out until Kia delivers electrics, than buy electrics from GM.
