I had a pretty horrible eperience with Rakuten and a round of Auras recently and bought an Oasis. I just got it like 45 minutes before this post. For the life of me I can’t find the option, if it exists, to turn the battery meter into a percentage. Can that be done?

Yes. Change the user interface font to "Large" and you'll then see a percentage on the battery meter.

Go into settings and then "Accessibility". There you'll change the display size to large. Mind you, you will get larger covers on the home view page and also, the percentage/page numbering on the bottom inside a book will also be larger. For some odd reason, the menu icons go smaller in the larger settings.
