I'm not complaining. She's a wonderful girl, and some of our hobbies (reading, piano playing, writing, movies, (classical) music) are the same. We're not living together yet, but when we do, it's no problem if one of us decides to spend time on a solitary hobby, because the other has solitary hobbies as well.

For us, it would be a bad idea to spend ALL of our free time together/doing common activities. We can't, as we're both very introverted and, at some point, _need_ time to do our own things, alone. For me, it goes as far as wanting to be alone in a room, in either complete silence or with some music of my choice. If I'm in that mood, any and all distractions, even just another person being around will annoy me to no end, even if the other isn't doing anything annoying.

So yes, we'll both "lose" free time that can be spent on solitary hobbies, but certainly not all of it. There will be enough time for reading... except when I (she) chooses to do something else.
On the gluten free, mostly among the dieters.
On doing stuff alone, hubby and I also have separate hobbies, separate computers, etc.
So I understand.

A bit OT:

We have separate computers. Her way of using a computer is... uh... extremely cluttered as compared to mine.

She loves to read paper books. I only read paper books if they give me something special, such as illustrations. She only buys (second hand) books, mostly paperbacks or ex-library books, and doesn't care too much about how they look.

I buy only hard covers, either new, or in very good/like new condition, and they're mostly special or illustrated editions. If a book gets smeared or damaged, I'd freak out, because some of them are out of print editions that are 50+ years old and cost like €60+... _if_ you can even find them in good condition with dust jacket and all.

As she loves to eat and/or drink while reading, I won't even lend her my paper books. I don't forbid her much, if anything, except: No food or drink around my books, and electronics of which I'm the owner. With regard to her stuff (books, phone, laptop...) I don't really care, because she'll have to pay for the replacement herself if she ruins them by spilling drinks in them.

Except for living in the same house/appartment, very few things will actually change.

I think you two have a great future because you accept the differences and have work arounds.

I read 30 minutes to 2.5 hours a day, depending on how good my vision is. An additional 4 hours (avg.) daily on audio books most days.

Internet surfing can really cut into reading time, so I really limit it. No hubby, but I am a caregiver for brother, which takes a lot of time. When I was working full time, I read 2.5 hours daily just on commute and lunch break. I used audio books while knitting or quilting.

I am in awe of your quilting.

I read maybe 3 hours on weekdays, 5 on days off, plus audio books on my 1 hour commute and while quilting (me too @Tarana!).

I read while cooking dinner, eating, etc. every chance I get. Sometimes even while walking the dog...

Hello! Been lurking here a while but finally decided to join. I read about 30-90 minutes a day but waste a lot of time on the interwebs reading about reading. Hope to change that this year. I think most of my problem is that I have young kids and it’s less mentally taxing and easier to be interrupted when surfing than reading. Really trying to like audiobooks so I can be more productive while reading

Welcome Flaneurette! I found that when I don’t really have the focus to read, like while kids were small or during demanding medical treatments etc, I liked reading “trashy novels” they are easy to put down and pick up

I also like TTS (text-to-speech) better than audiobooks - I can continue on the same book, change the reading speed and am not distracted by the interpretation of the person reading the audio

Car rides, shower/bath time, toilet time, before going to bed time, are all great times for audio books!
I'm just lucky enough to have small moments in a day at work to read.
Perhaps 20-40 minutes, in between things. Other than that, I am on the internet, reading about reading as well!

To me, the device I'm using is just about as interesting as the book the device is displaying to me!

I regularly read for 1 - 1.1/2 hours daily on my bed before I sleep. I do add up another half an hour reading, during lunchtime also mostly.

Probably an hour a day, when all the 10 minutes here, and 30 minutes there are added up. I don't set aside time for reading, and I really should.
