Calibre: I do not get it

Not really, she's asking about calibre use, and I answer about it, not the other management I do outside of it.

The way lightroom works with photos. I point it to a folder, it adds the photos to the library, no copying or anything.

Hell, even iTunes works that way, unless you ask it to do something else.

Just because a person doesn't like a certain aspect of a piece of software doesn't mean they don't like the software. The OP was asking about the use of Calibre, so it's only fair to respond to her question with both the pros and the cons of what it can do. This is, after all a discussion of Calibre, not your dogmatic beliefs.
