Hmm - plugged it into my laptop (Vista 32) and ADE recognises it fine, but no popup, and it doesn't give me any options to authorised it.

Is it possible it's already authorised somehow ? Is there any way of checking this ? Tried reconnecting to my PC, and it still doesn't recognise it. Thanks for all the suggestions and help Jill |

Yes, you can check. Go to the "Settings" menu and select "About" (that's for the PRS-600, but I think it's the same on the 505). In the "Adobe" section of the text, if your Reader is authorised, it will say "This device is authorized for Adobe DRM protected content".

Note that ADE won't ask you to authorise the Reader unless the PC itself has been authorised first. Last edited by HarryT; 10-01-2009 at 12:29 PM. Reason: Typo |

That's why, then. Did you buy it second-hand? If it's authorised to a different Adobe ID, you need to unauthorise it, and then re-authorise it for your account.

Resetting the Reader to its "Factory Defaults" is probably the best way to do that. I don't recall how to do that, but I'm sure that someone else will be able to help. |

Well it didn't authorise itself, so somehow it got done

. As I say, I'd recommend doing a "reset to defaults", and then re-authorising it on your Vista 32 laptop. That should work OK. Once you've done that, you should be able to buy books via the Vista 64 machine.

I sure I probably did it at some point - I seem to have authorised and downloaded lots for various problems (PC crashing etc).

I'll have a look at resetting it. Thanks for the advice. |

Well - I just had an email from Waterstones head office with a very nicely written apology and a £10 credit to my e-wallet.

I appears that they do know about the problem with Vista 64, and they are working to resolve it. Will have to remember not to download using my main PC. Restores my faith. |

			I'm getting there !

I did download a few books successfully, and funnily they appeared in the Sony eReader software, rather than in DAE. Had a problem with the last one that gave me an error of : The requested title has been restricted. Please contact customer services. Called them and they don't have a clue, so they're sending this to the techie guys. Will wait to see the outcome. |
