One more bit of tech stuff on the way to the house. The wife will be delighted. Waterstones of Cork do not know if they will have stock tomorrow, but for their peace and sanity I hope they do. Waiting is not part of my DNA. I want my 505 now!

Curses. Between putting my name on a 505 in Waterstones and getting back to my PC to cancel it was shipped. I guess I'm waiting in for a delivery tomorrow instead of the easy option.

Is Waterstones.com down for anyone else?

I didn't realise that it was being released in Ireland as well as the UK!

HarryT, yes the 505 is definitely being released in the UK as well as in Ireland.

apologies, sorted the messup. The UK and Ireland are in the same copyright area as far as I am aware, so I think Waterstones include Ireland in many of its advertising/promotions. We are often at the losing end of the currency exchange rate, this time we have done ok.

Thanks, that's interesting - none of the press releases I've seen have mentioned Ireland. Glad to hear that it's being released there too!

Just rang my local Waterstones where I pre-ordered the Reader. Have them in stock but are unable to release them until tomorrow (4th).

Hi kja,

Yes they have signed an agreement with Sony and wont actually release them until 4th. Same with the Sony dealer.

Annoyingly Waterstones say they don't have a tracking number to give me for my parcel. That must make finding missing ones tricky.

I'd like one because my local DHL depot has an annoying habit of saying they tried to deliver but nobody was home and then not actually trying to deliver. The tracking number lets me spot when they pull that trick and shout at people.

Hi Flub,

I would guess you either spoke to the wrong person or it was nearly home time!

Of course they should have a tracking number and not giving it to you is not good for customer relations.

If you ordered online then they really should have emailed you the number anyway.

The other thing you can do if you get on OK with the local DHL is to ask them if they have a parcel for you from Waterstones. We get on with most of our couriers due to being a business so have no problem with this sort of request on the odd occasion.

Regards

Chris

I was told the same thing Flub....they said DHL enters the tracking numbers once they collect and they show on the system the next day, so give them a call in the morning and they should have one for you then.....

Ah right. I spoke to two different people and neither of them managed to tell me that

I'll give them a ring in the morning and see what they say. Although after checking up it makes no difference if DHL screw me around again. You can return anything bought from Waterstones.com to a Waterstones store. So If I get stiffed I can just go and buy one locally and then return the DHL one when it eventually arrives.

I'm such a glass half full person aren't I?

Our local DHL depot won't help at all if you don't have a tracking number. The claim they can't look a parcel up without one.

I must admit, my dealings with DHL have never been that positive. Fingers crossed for us both tomorrow Flub

Now if I can just get some shut-eye tonight and not stay awake too excited to sleep like a big kid.......

I had the misfortune to walk into Waterstones tonight and see the new Terry Pratchett book for sale. In paper form. Now I have something that requires reading before I can move onto my new tech toy
