Since I have it in my hands, lifting a finger to tap the side isn't a big deal. But I do have a lot of words, like "is" and "to" which get added to my dictionary instead.

For instance, I enjoy (as I used to with pbooks that would allow it too) laying my ereader basically flat on my hand to reader with all five fingers underneath it and it centred on my palm. Such as in these pics:

Is that not a normal reading position? Anyway, to allow for the thumb to press a button one must move the ereader farther out towards the fingers and angle the thumb around to the top and wherever the button is (or to swipe). The only other option is to use one's other hand. If there were a remote, one could keep the ereader in one hand and the remote in the other and not have to lift either to turn pages.

But still, the remote would mainly for when the ereader is not in one's hands such as on a stand.
I don't see the point myself. I mean it's not like the ereader is particularly heavy. I rarely use a stand. If I'm eating out (alone) and want to read while I eat I may use it, but otherwise I hold the ereader in my left hand and turn the page with my right index finger. I mean come on we can fit several thousand books onto a little 8 ounce device do we have to be too lazy to turn the page by hand? Paper books had their pages turned by hand for several hundred years and turning the pages of an ebook by hand helps the device to vanish as we read the stories we have on our devices.

You don't see the point _for you_. Please don't call people with disabilities who want assistive tech "lazy". It's rude and ignorant.

Yes, paper books are heavy and need to be turned by hand. This is an access barrier.

It's also rude and ignorant to assume that you have what someone said in the right context and not bother to inquire before accusing. I wasn't saying that those with disabilities are lazy. I myself have some medical problems (though not in terms of mobility).I grant that there are those who do have problems with their hands for example who could benefit from some sort of aid. I was speaking of the general case of the average user who doesn't have such problems. The OP didn't specify why such a remote would be needed and it is easy to misread some of the posts that come after and (mistakenly) think that some just want such a device just to have it.

Well, it's nice that such devices are available for those who wish to use them .

I'm sure the world is easier for those who have need of such to navigate than it used to be. I have no quarrel with that certainly. Of course it would be even better if no one had the need for such (i.e. if we had the medical know how to fix all mobility problems).

Sounds like someone is one of the lazy people; might as well just read a pbook.

I admit to being "lazy." I have no physical handicap and I find a remote useful. But when it boils down to it: not carrying 40lbs of books with me and buying/downloading books from the convenience of my own home makes me lazy, too. As does preferring zippers to buttons and not hiking down the garden trail to use the facilities, so I'm not going to feel the least bit guilty about using this particular convenience, either.

Remote controls can exist simply to make life a little easier for the user, rather than for medical reasons. When I was a child, if you wanted to change the channel or the volume on TV, you had to actually get out of your chair, walk the two steps to the TV, and turn a knob. Nowadays we all use TV remotes, even though the overwhelming majority of people who watch TV would be physically able to get by without it. It's just more convenient to be able to make adjustments from your comfy chair.

Especially for those who channel surf.
Although my father had two remotes when I was a child..................my sister and I.
