And mitigating the lack of sd card on the Aura One somewhat is the fact that it has 8gb of on board storage, compared to 4gb for the H2O.

Just out of curiosity, did you end up ordering from Chapters?
No, Chapters gave me a 3-4 week time to get it here and I'm leaving on an rv trip in 2 weeks. So, I ordered from Kobo and they gave me a 1 - 2 week time. Hopefully they are accurate and I can get it before I leave on my trip. I might have to delay a couple of days, but not an entire week. Again, assuming all goes as planned. In the meantime I'm going to be reading a lot on MobileRead to see how I want to set it up when it arrives. I currently use Calibre, so it will just be the shelves I need to think about adding.

Just for future reference of anyone that might read the thread down the road (obviously it doesn't matter to you any more ), while Chapters will say 3-4 weeks, that's to cover their butt in case of hold ups at the border (which could happen, but are rare). The reality I've seen on here is that you're likely to have it in the U.S. in less that a week in all but exceptional circumstances.
And as a heads up to the OP, with direct from Kobo you may well get your device before you actually get the tracking info from them (you may need to contact customer service to get a tracking #) .

If you want to compare screen sizes there is no better source than our wiki.

My kobo glo had a light grayish background and the text was dark gray. My voyage has a white background. I find that videos comparing kindle vs kobo all show kobo having a darker background. I wanted to try the larger aura one, but didn't want to take a chance with the screen color. My voyage is really perfect for me.

If you want a visual comparison, then www.displaywars.com is good.

The light on Kindles cannot be turned fully off. The light on a Kobo can be turned fully off.

My H2O has a very nice Carta screen. I'd match it with a Kindle any day.

Thats not true for all models; Kindle Oasis can have the light completely off.

The ability to turn the light fully off really isn't much of a much in my opinion.

I could turn the light completely off on my Kobo, but I never do. I wonder how many users actually bother with it?

I have both a Kobo Aura One and a Voyage and am very happy with both of them. The greyness of the background really depends on the setting of the front light. When I do a side by side comparison, I can easily adjust my the lighting to make the background appear very similar.

I am from the US and picked up an Aura One from Best buy Canada since I was there this weekend. 249+12% tax, still came to only 210 USD total. Good deal, with CAD at 0.75 of USD these days.

It is working well and the screen size bump is very useful as I read fast. The 300dpi resolution compared to my Aura HD (250dpi or so) is visible with thin fonts and makes a difference.

The one problem seems to be backlight uniformity when in the night mode "yellow" light. I see some faint blue light leakage at the bottom left and right edges. Slightly annoying to the OCD guy in me.
