Could you try using a USB 2 hub plugged into a USB 3 port. Connect the Kobo to a port on the USB 2 hub and try calibre.

I have one hub in the house to test, but the Kobo doesn't even appear in Windows through that. I'll buy another one when I'm next in town and test again. It might be a lack-of-power issue through this one. |

Glad it was such a simple fix. We'll have to remember that for other users

Sorry to reopen, and I see there are other threads about blue screens, but nothing I have so far tried has worked for long. I don't have USB 3 so it's not related to that, so we have any other suggestions?
I have found that it might be related to the usb cable, so that's a bit similar to the type of usb port, I guess. Thanks |

Could you try the suggestion I made in post #17 in this thread ==>> Windows 10 Blue Screen Crash. As you'll see in kiwik's response my suggestion did make a difference, a calibre error rather than a BSOD, if you get something similar please post the text of the error message and I will ask the relevant experts to respond. Hi,
I started Calibre with the ignore-plugins option and it just hung on reading the list from the Kobo. However I have established that this is 100% repeatable using my Samsung usb cable which works fine for everything else, but as far as I can see there is no issue with another cable. There isn't anything wrong with the Samsung cable and it's the only one that works properly with my Samsung phone, but when used with a Kobo and Calibre it causes a blue screen. Weird behaviour. It's also only when Calibre gets involved that there's a problem. Technically as it's not a Kobo usb I suppose there isn't really a problem as it's not as supplied, but it's interesting nonetheless. |

Windows can access your Kobo over the Samsung cable, and you have other devices that work over that cable. It's only when Calibre wants to access the Kobo over that cable that you have problems. But calibre can access the Kobo using the Kobo cable. So you have a solution, which is to use the Kobo cable when you want to connect the Kobo to calibre. FWIW - I use the cable that came with a Samsung phone, for the phone, a Lenovo tablet, two camera's (GoPro and Leica), and a shirt pocket drive. But, other than the GoPro itself, nothing else will work over the GoPro cable. My Samsung phone also works when I use a non Samsung cable which everyone says is a no-no. Apart from printers and disks I have problems with everything else if I try to attach them via my monitor's USB ports. USB is a never ending saga, like the Greek bailouts - extend and pretend (there are no design faults). BR |

Hi,
What you say is correct. I'm just surprised that the combination causes Windows to crash! |

However, that's over a month of usage at 3-4 times per week without any issues. But now the waters are well and truly muddied... ![]() No updates to either Windows or Kobo, or cable changes, between working and failure. |
