I have noticed a strange behavior that I have been able to replicate only on one laptop successfully, but the laptop is 6 months old (Asus F205TA) and I never experienced any problems on it regarding ports or otherwise. sometimes when I plug in my KA1, the laptop shuts down completely and I cannot turn in on when KA1 is plugged in. this happens multiple times, when plugged in again. sometimes I also cannot turn it on (laptop) after KA1 was unplugged, but this lasts seconds (20 tops).
Has anyone experienced anything similar with their KA1? I am now running KSM + koreader on it, the same thing happens and it happened even before tinkering with the SW (when I was using "stock nickel OS")
I am trying to pinpoint the problem, but dont know how to proceed. I dont want to damage my brand new very expensive e-reader.
I wonder if it might be a safety feature of your laptop, or its operating sys. Your Kobo should appear to your PC as a mobile storage device, and can be considered a security risk. If so there should be a means of overriding that action.

Luck;
Ken

I use KOReader which can transfer ebooks wirelessly between devices running KOReader. It also has a sync progress feature. KOReader can run on Kindles, Kobos, Pocketbooks, and many Android devices.

Generally, I read different books on different readers. Due to the internal storage limitations on the Aura One (wasn't that long ago that 8GB would have been endless storage) so currently, I have most of my fiction and work epubs on the Aura One. The cookbooks which chew up space worse than manga are on the external uSD card in an H2O with a backup on an Aura HD and it's external uSD card. Probably just as well to keep the KA1 out of the kitchen.

Since I read mostly epubs when I've been swapping between ereaders doing some testing, all I do is to remember the Adobe page number and go to that page number on the next ereader to keep my reading in sync. One of few advantages of synthetic page numbers which don't care about the screen, font or anything else's size.

If using kepubs synchronized from Kobo's site, the reading position is automatically synced though there seem to be odd delays and hiccoughs in that process. So read an ebook, stop and sync. Move to next ereader, sync, continue reading from where you left off, stop and sync, repeat cycle.

Personally, I'm not that fond of the way kepubs are presented nor some of the odd glitches in the way styles are applied -- not that epubs are much better but at least I know most of the glitches and workarounds.

Does the device only generate this file if it sees an issue as an error?
Or maybe it got wiped since the KA1 decided to go through setup again upon rebooting itself. When it did that I had to reenter my Kobo account, Wi-Fi password and Overdrive info all over again.
The file is a stack dump. It gets generated for some errors, but not all. I don't know if they are likely to survive the sign-out and setup process. But, from the weirdness of the error, it was worthwhile to look for it.

Yeh, there's sometime a delay that I can't work out. But, you don't need the sync. You can open a book and read on one device and close the book. Then pick-up the other and open the book. It will check the page and display a prompt with the message "It looks like you've been reading on another device. Would you like to return to the page you most recently opened?" I've had a little bit of "fun" swapping between the devices, my iPad and Android phone and the desktop application to test this. It generally works, but sometime the iPad app didn't update. I think it has a minimum time between checks.
