Once in a while I've noticed a page activity. I think it has too do with closing the cover and handling the unit right away.

In the "Sleepcover" section? Yes, I do. That was the first thing I checked. Like I said, the sleepcover only makes it sleep about 50% of the time. Hit or miss.

Does the cover twist at all? Or does it line up with the edges all the times when closed? I had a cheap cover on my Aura H2O that had to much play in the "hinge" and didn't always line up properly. If it wasn't the device didn't go to sleep. The official cover worked perfectly, but it is starting to stretch and sometimes doesn't line-up properly and doesn't trigger the sleep.

you may be onto something there. I played around with it this morning and there is a significant amount of play (vertically) with the sleep cover. at least a quarter inch. And it definitely affects whether or not the device goes to sleep properly.

On a related note, while I was playing around this morning trying out different things, I solved the phantom page turn issue. You can actually get presses through the sleep cover. If the book doesn't go to sleep immediately and you are touching the outside of the sleep cover those can register as touches. I got a video of it which I will post later on.

I've started using the button on the back to put it to sleep before closing the cover. Annoying, but better than trying to find my place the next time I open it to read.

There is a magnet in the front flap of the cover and something that senses the magnet inside the bezel of the Aura One. If these two do not line up, it does not go to sleep.

Here is the video of how the phantom page turns are showing up:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dC6...ature=youtu.be

The first ~30 seconds are the phantom page turns through the sleep cover. The rest is some bonus issues of reading on a metal picnic table (not really an issue).

Yes, that's how a sleep cover works. But with the Aura one, either 1) the magnets are very small or 2) the software isn't very sensitive. It's unacceptable to have the sleep cover not work unless it's closed with <.125" tolerance. Especially when it's the "offical" cover and I paid $50. I'll wait for the cheaper 3rd party ones and hope that this is a magnet size issue (I assume this is the case since the software for magnetic sensors is usually a binary on/off type of deal).

Yes, after investigating magnet locations on the device, I'm pretty sure the metal picnic table was forming the connection to put the device to sleep (in spite of having the sleep cover fully opened).

But the metal picnic table wasn't related to the phantom page turns and selections I was seeing. That's a separate issue.

I just checked Kobo's website. Where it used to say "Available September 23" (for both the reader and for the sleepcover), it now says "Available September 30"! Chapters doesn't say when the sleepcover will be available at all; it just says "ships in 1-2 weeks," which it has been saying for a while. I may have to forget the official sleepcover and find something else. I wonder what is going on?

Your video of how the phantom page turns happens when flexible cover is pushed to touch screen documents how phantom page turns happens. I have Kobo Touch version "A" with pocket in top cover. I was a little concerned that would cause page turns but no problem with screen recessed .010 inch below bezel.

I have 2 Samsung 8 inch tablets with flush capacitive touch screen and cover touching screen does not turn book pages or other nonsense. Probably Kobo Aura One touch screen is set to reliably turn pages but needs touch sensitivity lowered a little. Hard to get this right as my old galaxy note tablet often doesn't easily register touch of my dry fingers and works much better with stylus but new tablet more reliably responds to finger touch.

Maybe user touch sensitivity adjustment is needed or reject touch over larger area as done by synaptics touch pad driver on laptop computers.

Reading the thread, I decided to cancel my 14 Septembre pre-order. I'll wait until I can handle it and see how the folding thing works. Also see more 3rd parties covers. I'll take the risk and travel without on my next two trips.

The faulty sleep function itself doesn't trouble me since I've inhibited it in all my former devices after a few days trying for the first: it is not reliable since a movement in a handbag or rucksack can turn on the device, and putting it to sleep has become a reflex - and is easier with that blue button too.

The cause of the sleep cover going to sleep when you Lay it down on the picnic table is because the magnetic field is enhanced from the metal on the table. My aura h20 does the same thing when I lay it down on a metal table as well.

The lifting of the sleep cover removes the magnet from your ereader preventing it from going to sleep. Which is. Why a touch registers from the outer cover. Nice video btw

Jack
