Aura 2 is an upgrade replacing Aura 1. It move from Perl screen to Carta screen.

Yes, the Aura Edition 2 is likely an upgrade over the original Aura 6" (not to be confused, as difficult as Kobo seem to want to make that, with the new Aura One at 7.8", ). However, the Aura Edition 2 doesn't stack up very well vs the Aura Glo HD which price/size wise would be it's current direct comparitor in the Kobo line-up.

I've been waiting over a year to upgrade my 350. The gloHD has been on the top of my list, my finger hovering over the buy button. But I want Overdrive integration.

I like the Oasis & Voyage but I want to be independent of Amazon and would still have the need of another device to check out the book from OverDrive-then complete process with Amazon.

Now that the One gets Overdrive, it's very likely that the others will, too. Kobos pretty much run the same firmware across the range, so they have feature parity.

So you may pull the trigger on a Glo HD yet

I'm wondering if a 6.8" device is in the pipeline.

That could happen, but wonder if it would be a buggy process aftermarket, if they shipped with the newest firmware that included Overdrive integration, that would be tempting. I would have to be patient though because I have a feeling they won't be doing the upgrade until after the One has been on the market for a bit.

As it happens, if they actually ship by Sept. 6, the added incentive for the One is that it is my Bday

No reason to suspect it would be a buggy aftermarket process. AFAIK the firmware updates completely replace the existing firmware rather than patching it so the only difference would be that if you had to factory reset you're going to have to upgrade again to get Overdrive. It's always possible for an update to get corrupted during install, but since it's a replacement rather than a patch it's probably either going to work perfectly or need re-install.

A lot of firmware incorporates factory reset so it doesn't downgrade so to speak...can't speak for readers but other devices I've owned allowed it.

Not sure if I understand what you're saying correctly, but in the case of Kobo they don't replace the original factory reset partition (except in rare circumstances) with a newer version. So even those with an original Glo that may be running the current firmware will go back to whatever version was originally on the device when it was assembled if they factory reset.

Figured that might be the case with kobo, what I was referring to was another device I have lost some functionality when I upgraded the firmware, so after a factory reset I realized the firmware remained the same. It was a lengthy process to "downgrade" the firmware so long story short I had to wait for the next update to restore the lost functionality.

Most of the Kobo fans (me included) are stuggling with how the Aura 2nd edition fits - it does not have the flush bezel, does not have the improved light, and the resolution is not as good at the Glo HD.

If you are OK with the size and price, the Aura One looks great. For the lower price, the Glo HD looks like a better deal. Many are guessing that the Overdrive Library capability will come to all Kobo readers with a firmware update after the new units are released.

If their return policy will support it I may get both and return whichever one I don't like. I've used both a 6" and 7.9" screen I like the portability of the smaller device and 6.8" might be the sweet spot.

I just bought a kindle paperwhite. Basically, my original Kindle is no longer supported for many of the new books coming out, and I can not download azw3 formatted books to my mac. Since I prefer to format shift my books to Marvin, that's a problem. While there are work arounds available, this is the quickest way to do it, and it's kind of nice to have a back up eInk device for hikes and the like. I have been using a Sony T3 for that, but the battery is starting to fade a bit.

Why can't you download azw3 formatted books to your mac? Are you getting a particular error message?
