Why are you trying to import? The Library should be there if you pasted the files into the Library folder Ninjad

I've copied the calibre library to c drive. Gone to switch on the toolbar and am presented with: your current calibre library is located at c:\users\bethw\calibre Then somewhere for me to choose new location Then 3 radio buttons What do I do? Please forgive my lack of knowledge here! |

Beewee, your basic problem is not with Calibre, but your lack of familiarity with using a PC. Do you have any friends with more PC experience that you could ask for help? We can help you out with Calibre, but we really can't teach you how to use a PC.

Yes Harry. I said at the beginning of this thread that I'm not computer literate. However if someone could explain to me in simple steps and terms exactly what I'm doing wrong and what I need to do then I'll do it. Please don't give up on me! Try to be a patient and kind teacher... I know it must be frustrating for you having to deal with someone like me but isn't that what the forum is for? To help...

We can't see what you are doing wrong (or if you are skipping a step that needs to be done) If you toss in a NEW version of Windows (W10) (this is really hard on someone who was a basic user of XP (or Vista, W7) |

I just don't understand why Calibre isn't recognising the library. I've done what I've been told to do. I was told to point Calibre to the library which I did but nothing happened.

Can you tell us, please, the exact sequence of commands that you used in Calibre?

Well I've copied and pasted the file from the portable h/d to c:\users\bethw\calibre library. Then in Calibre when I hover the mouse over the icon for Calibre Library it shows 0 books |

Many FOLDERS plus metadata.db and the JSON file (these are a SET and all must be added at the same time)

Yes sorry wrong terminology. Many folders plus metadata and json file. They are all in the same folder on c drive

Follow the steps in the attached screenshots, and then select the folder you copied from the portable HDD. That folder should have several (many?) author folders inside, in addition to the metadata.db and the json file. |

I've done exactly as you've told me and as illustrated! Honestly, I might seem stupid but I'm not! Absolutely nothing has happened. That folder is full of all my books too and the two others (metadata and json)

Before you copied the files into that folder it would (presumably) have contained the two data files for the empty Calibre library. When you copied your own library into the folder, did you tell Windows to overwrite the files when it popped up a warning asking you what it should do?
