What do you base that on? There has been plenty of discussion here on what the best card to use is, but I don't remember ever seeing a suggestion that only cat 10 would work. I don't have an Aura, but I have used a cat 4 card with all my devices that have external slots. I would be surprised if the Aura was any different.

Once I decided to upload new files, so I connected it to my Mac, though It didn't recognize device well, so I tried another method - System -> OTG Enable
I received a notification window that this feature was never tested on Aura (only on kobo mini and some others)
Of course I pressed YES
Of course I have a bricked Kobo Aura now %)

Nothing from mentioned methods how to manually reset are working, the device is fully charged, I tried:
1) pushing power for more than 30 sec,
2) holding light then repeately pushing power with different speed, delay, etc
3) holding light then pushing reset repeately
4) holding everything pushing everything the whole day and so on

The only reaction of my kobo is turning on - orange indicator in the right corner lights for2-3 seconds then screen goes black, then white again. No symbol or any other sigh since OTG button

Unfortunately my device has built in memory chip, so no sd card replacement is possible.
As far as I understood reading through the forum, I can try to upload kobo aura h2o image to my sd card and somehow make kobo read it.

Anyone please advice

Hi,

Do you get when pressing bottoms.. black restoring screen ?

Hi,

has anyone managed to boot from microSD card? I have a Kobo Aura device which was formatted to NTFS. Since then it's not working. When I turn on the device, the orange led blinks under the power button and nothing else happens. It would be great if I could repair it somehow.

Have you tried a factory reset? See https://www.kobo.com/help/en-US/arti...your-kobo-aura for instructions.

Of course I tried factory reset first but as there's no image on the inner memory it didn't help much to solve the problem. I have to connect to a PC and make it visible somehow, then reformat it to FAT 32 and copy the Aura image file from the microSD card. I guess...

I'm somewhat confused here. Of you you did a format while the device was connected via USB you've only formatted the partition where the database, and your ebooks reside; not any of the partitions where the Kobo firmware etc are stored

Sorry, but the is no "of course" here. Based on my experience here, a very large number of people do not know that there is such a thing as a factory reset, or thing that pressing the reset button is all that is needed. Me asking if you if you have done it might seem insulting, but as you didn't say you had, it is better to check than not.

As @PeterT is asking, how did you format the storage? On all Kobo devices, the storage is in three partitions. The root partition holds the OS and other executables. The recovery partition holds everything needed for a factory reset. The third partition is where the books are. In normal use, only the last partition is presented to the PC when the device is connected. If you reformat that partition, the device should still react to a factory reset. One of the steps in the factory reset is to format this partition. This should be able to handle reformatting an NTFS partition. If the factory reset isn't starting at all, then it suggests that there is another problem. Or you did something more severe than reformatting the partition when it was connected to a PC.

I have sent you a link to the image for the Aura HD. Booting from this is what has been reported as working in the past, but I haven't had any recent reports. And, I don't have steps for doing it. I don't know if there is anything needed other than putting the image on a card and putting that in the device.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it! I tried to restore the device with the Aura HD image on the microSD card and I did without the card as well. At first it seemed that it will be ok but then the screen has frozen. Since then I've tried a lot of combination with light/reset/power buttons to wake up the device but unfortunately none of them worked so far.
+ info: when I connect the ereader to my PC it doesn't show up in USBDeview.

I know it sounds strange - as the recovery partition is always separated from the main partition - but it looks like it "damaged" somehow. I don't know why it can't boot from the recovery image. :S I removed the back of the device to unplug the battery cable and then reconnect. Sadly it didn't help.

Hi,

I did factory reset for my kobo ara hd using this link https://www.kobo.com/help/en-US/arti...your-kobo-aura

I tried it 3 times and it finally turns on.
In fact, I keep pressing light bottom and power bottom until getting light flashing with normal speed, then the screen will turns black->white->black,
keep pressing until getting light flashing quicker and you will get restoring screen
Then when finishing restoring, you follow instructions on the screen

If that doesn't work, try it again with device connected to pc

I hope that will help

Aura bricked

Hello guys,

I have a Aura bricked. After the first week of keys pressing, the second week of looking for a working img to put in external sd, I kindly ask help.
My best result is a img of Touch on external sd, keeping light button down, keep slide power. After some second the screen gray, than black, that's all

Anybody can help me
Otherwise in coming few days the Kobo will fly to the waste

Bye
Damata

There is no Aura image due to the type of internal storage they have. An image for the Touch won't work as the hardware is different. People have reported success using the image from an Aura H2O. I have sent you a PM with a link to this image.

PM sent.

And it is pointless posting multiple requests. I respond to the first I see when I see it. When I see the second I have to waste time sending another PM or working out if I have already replied. And for those who want a response and must have it now... Firstly, it is not that urgent. Secondly, I'm probably sleeping, or trying to. Or maybe I am working, or pretending to.

Hi davidfor!

Hi davidfor!

Can you send to me an image or a link ?

I'm sorry, i am new here, i don't know how to pm.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, the flash glare makes things a bit hard to see. I can't tell if it's grey or there is damage to the screen. If you can navigate using that screen, you might be able to initiate a factory reset from the UI. And I admit to being surprised that the device boots from the external card.

As to an Aura H2O image, I have sent you a PM with a link.
