Now, time for the next "patient". Back to that dead PW3 battery (see photos earlier in this thread):
In the photo above, you can see the spot-welded battery pads after the dead LiPo tabs were twisted/torn off. Some kind of speckly shiny plating that solder WILL NOT stick to. I tried. But when the spot-weld pads got hot enough, they slipped right off the circuit board. Surface mount pre-welded? As you can see, there are four copper pads beneath each spot-weld pad. And with the same LiPo from my K2 experiment, already fully charged. I made wire loops so I could solder them to each set of four pads. Umm... where did those melt spots come from on the black plastic? I do not recall getting my soldering iron anywhere near them. Gremlins... And back into the dead PW2. No change in behavior though. Power LED off, except when a charger cable is attached. Pressing the power button 10 seconds gives four flashes (like before with the dead battery), the solid amber again. My next step will be to move this "repaired" Paperwhite kindle battery module into a known-working kindle, and see how well it works, and detects on a reboot, and charges (after it is used awhile). I just looked up the part number on my "puffed up" K2 battery. What is interesting is that I found an equivalent battery with the same part number, but that says "Sony" on it (like in the first photo in this thread that has a different part number). Strangely, this K2 LiPo battery lacks "Sony" on it -- is amazon using cheaper Sony knock-offs? Or are they just "multi-sourced" based on supply and demand?
![]() Same part number as on K2 LiPo, but with "Sony" label (missing from K2 LiPo). Both batteries have that "backwards UR" logo on them (K2 and PW), but the K2 is missing the "Sony" label. See photos in previous posts... Last edited by geekmaster; 06-02-2016 at 04:37 PM. |

If I had to guess, my thinking would be that most batteries are manufactured at one place and then the labels added.
IIRC:Johnson Controls makes most car batteries here in the US. Then the names are stuck on them. Last edited by Cinisajoy; 06-02-2016 at 05:26 PM. |

![]() I mean, seriously, I write stuff that runs as root and in kernel mode on machines across the world, and I don't consider myself fit to wash the shoes of the embedded avionics guys, let alone the astro guys. If my stuff crashes really badly, it means a bunch of boxes panic (or at the very worst have to restore from backup) and I ship a bugfix and feel like an idiot. If your stuff crashes really badly it means a horribly expensive box out of human reach is forever inaccessible -- and is probably front-page news across the world. Rocket science, as the sadly spun-to-death Hitomi recently showed us, really is rocket science. |

Aside: this term has always amused me, because of course the thing about Monopoly money is that within the game it is *valuable*. It is one of the two resources you can get, well, a monopoly of (it's in the name), and use to leverage into a monopoly of the other resource.
Played properly (with evil tricks like refusing to convert houses into hotels specifically to run the game out of houses and frustrate others' housebuilding efforts), Monopoly turns friends into lifelong enemies. ![]() |

I have gotten reports TWICE now that some folks cannot view the pictures in this thread. The difference is that this thread uses photos store in a mobileread photo album, shared as PUBLIC. I used the wiki for my photos in the past, but it has NOT allowed me to login for years, and the password reset feature is broken (reported many times to folks here, including Alex, but nobody ever responded or fixed it).
I can only edit the wiki anonymously, and I cannot add photos, so I thought using albums would be a good idea -- apparently not... Time to LOGOUT and test this thread... EDIT: I logged out, and this page showed the pictures. I tried another browser, also logged out, pictures fine. Only difference is there are advertisements and this thread is split to three pages, b.ut no ads and only one page while logged int. I wonder what the problem is with SOME folks not being able to see pictures in THIS thread (while seeing pictures in my other threads that do NOT use photos form my albums) just fime. Hmm... I can see your pictures just fine.
My guess would be have the ones that can't see your pictures check their settings. |

I was just sent a screen capture, and it shows all broken images. These images are in my geekmaster photo album, viewable at my profile page.
In the past, my threads used wiki photos. But I have needed a password reset for YEARS, and my reports about the password reset tool BROKEN have been ignored for YEARS... EDIT: Instead of PMs about the broken wiki password reset problem, I reported this post this time, with that message. I wonder if it will help. It would be nice to fix the wiki password reset feature AND this problem with some people not being able to see images from my photo album that are embedded in this thread... More confirmation that my old posts with mobileread wiki photos in them work fine. The problem is THIS thread, which changed to using mobileread album photos. Some people cannot see them.
I need my wiki password reset so I can login. I have not been able to login for YEARS. The "forgot my password" thing does not work for my account, using multiple different browser, on multiple different computers, over multiple different years. After I can login I will move my photos above to the wiki and edit this thread to point to them. Too bad that the mobileread photo album is also broken for some folks. I really do not want to store my mobileread-specific images offsite -- other forums where I did that now have too many broken images in old posts. I would hope keeping everything here would prevent link-rot like that... |

Here is a screenshot (portion) sent to me:
My profile picture obviously works. My wiki images work too, but I cannot login there. Just the album photos are unreliable... |

I just tried another password reset AGAIN. The email arrived with temporary password. Like before, I Logged part way in, it wanted me to create a new password, I did, but clicking submit gave me this error (just like all those other attempts):
Quote:
That "session hijacking" is a false positive. It does that with multiple browsers and multiple ISPs. The wiki password reset is still SNAFUBAR. I sent that page text in the past too, trying to get this fixed. Even in PMs to Alexander Turcic (which whom I have had PMs in the past and he was responsive, just not about this issue). It was a private issue before, but time to go public (here and now) apparently... EDIT: How can I search my PM messages? I have almost 3400 PM messages stored here... I want to search for the posts I sent about these wiki login issues that NEVER get fixed! Last edited by geekmaster; 06-02-2016 at 09:01 PM. |

I just tried using the temporary password the wiki login page sent me. But this time I used my smartphone. Different device, different browser, different ISP. SAME PROBLEM.
It demanded I change my password after logging in with the temporary password. I did as requested, but a simpler password change this time. It claimed it detected a session hijack, just like in many attempts over recent years. It says to go back and reload that page, but that NEVER works... If the local management refuses to help me on this issue, I suppose I will need to create multiple login accounts. Is that allowed here? It would be SO MUCH BETTER if they just fix the broken website code! Both the wiki and the photo album issues! The forum/album photo size inconsistency is more than annoying too (as seen from the moderator warning earlier in this thread). If the image size in a post is a problem, the web server should resize the image itself (just like at any MODERN website). Last edited by geekmaster; 06-14-2016 at 04:50 PM. |

The above image works (displays) in the advanced editor but does not display when viewing the post itself. = = = = And now that I have quoted it (and seen it in the editor) - I can see it displayed (inside of the quote tags) when viewing my post and when viewing the original. = = = = Even stranger - I now **ALL** photos in this thread are displayed. Before, none of the ones linked to the album entries would display. - - - - Must be some CSS that is loaded by the editor - required to make the tags work - that isn't getting shipped to the browser by simply viewing the post. I suppose I could find it - but I don't have access to fix it. Last edited by knc1; 06-02-2016 at 09:36 PM. |
