I was working on something else at my desk, so suffered thru a (very) long chat. I now am assured that there is promo credit on my account to pay for the three, but either it isn't there or will ONLY work on those books (I test purchased a book I wanted, anyway, and the promo credit was not used). So, if I want them, I need to bite the bullet and see if credit appears just for the three books in question; if not, I'll have to do returns and retry the entire chat (some other day, when it's raining out, perhaps).

Frustrating, much? Sorry to read that.

That was not the case for me. In fact, the Customer Service rep who issued my promo credit advised me (unbidden) that I could use the promotional credit he was issuing for one or more of the ebooks in question, for as long as they remained in the Kindle store, or I could apply it toward any other Amazon purchases I chose, in the categories listed below. (That information changed the way I saw the three titles on offer, as it added the element of opportunity cost into the equation.)

After reading your post, which reflected an experience different from what I was told to expect, I decided to check my promotional credit balance by:
  1. Clicking this link* (this link works, too, in the USA*) at the "Redeem Your Amazon Gift Card or Promotional Code" page, then
  2. Clicking the yellow Check Your Balance button, and finally
  3. Reviewing the following listing of my various credit balances. (Note: $17.97 is the credit for the "3 FREE Kindle Bestsellers"):

Just a note: the Amazon Gift Card Balance on that page shows how much money you have left from redeemed Amazon Gift Cards, not how much you can apply toward purchasing one.

Your experience is great, and how it should go. But koland's experience is quite common. I personally have had a credit issued to me that wasn't visible in any balance and was unusable on two occasions. I tried getting the first one fixed, but the support rep couldn't figure out what had happened and it was a waste of time for everyone concerned. I just gave up and didn't try calling back the second time it happened.

Not to say all my experiences with Amazon support have been bad. I've had several great experiences. But they seem to seriously screw up issuing store credit on a regular basis. I suspect it's because they have way too many different store credit types to issue, and the support reps get confused.

I'm sorry to read this and am now even more appreciative of my Customer Service rep's competence.

I added the books last night. I also got the error, but then when I looked at my library, they were there. I also got 2 of the 3 whispersync audiobooks for $1.99.

That's the page they've well hidden that I was looking for. I wasn't paying enough attention and the first book I tried was third party seller. I tried another without a "sold by" and lo and behold, my promo credit was used! So, I checked and I still have quite a bit of credit I can use (I can borrow the two books I don't have and read them that way). For those considering trying to take advantage of the same mischance, the pay per hour is pretty low if you don't get the books right away.

It looks like you got generic credit - mine is Kindle books only, but that's fine with me.

Very strange! I went to look at the promo when monkey (or somebody) first posted about it, and got "sorry, you already used it". Checked again later, similar message. I guessed that maybe it was a single-PERSON code, not a general person code, and that that person had already used it. I was pretty sure I hadn't already used it. In fact, I looked through my book-index online for the one book that interested me, and I do not already have it. I never got close enough to it, to request it, in this promo.

Oh well. I ignored it at that point. But having now found THIS thread, I'm slightly re-assured to know that I wasn't the only one to have these strange errors!

The funniest Amazon goof I ever encountered was when I bought an ebook and 30 seconds later someone bought the exact same ebook for me. Naturally, I got the turn this into a gift card link.
The gift card didn't show up. I got ahold of customer service. They had accidentally given the gift card to the giver. I got a promotional credit.
