it would be great if the epub standard includes a generic "keywords" field in a metadata file. this field could contain a list of phrases/words separated by a semi-colon. and all epub reading software would be able to read this field for the purpose of classification, sorting, search, etc.
it should be understood that sorting and classification by these "keywords" would create an entry for each phrase per book. so a book with two keywords would appear twice. this sort of works like an index system. it's the simplest way i know of that is comprehensive and non-limiting. |

Seems a lot of folks change the book title itself to display the series. I have always changed everything via Calibre to address my own ridiculously OCD catagories. Generally, I'll have something like "Storm Front" by Jim Butcher in Calibre as its own title, the author, Tag as "Fiction- Paranormal" and series as "The Dresden Files [1].
Generally I will try to fit a new book into an existing Tag, but if it doesn't I create a new one, following the same format, ie. Fiction- [New Genre]. It was a terrrible amount of effort a long time ago initially, but now it's second nature as I add new books in. |

Do you "title changing" folks change the title before or after you've added the book to an Amazon cloud-style collection? Or do you skip Cloud-collections entirely, and ONLY do Calibre-renaming?
I added a fistful of books, back in November. I added them to my "CurrentRead" collection. Then I remembered to take a copy to my Mac and have Calibre change the title. So I deleted it from the kindle, and side-loaded the book from Calibre with the new title. And then watched them DISAPPEAR on my kindle, presumably due to the disagreement in name between the sideload, and the Cloud collection. I repeated this several times. They could be found on the kindle by searching (as I recall) but didn't show up in any list, collection or not. I was fast enough once to SEE that they initially did show up, and in a few seconds they disappeared again. I finally stopped trying to Calibre-rename them, and just had the kindle pull the original books from the Cloud again, so that I could see the books on my kindle. So: I theorized conflicts between cloud collections and Calibre-renaming. I've been scared to use Calibre-renaming ever since. |

I don't use any cloud services. All of my books are stored on my pc, a back up drive, and my devices.
I copy both my Kindle and epub books over to each individual device. It might be more work for most, but I have no problem highlighting, dragging and dropping from my pc to my devices. What I love about MoonReader is that once I open the program it finds those new books and adds them automatically. |

I do not maintain any collections or categories for my books. I keep them sorted out by author name on my pc, and transfer the books on my device as and when needed.
