Still loving the Voyage after a year and a half or so--and from what I've seen of the Oasis (if it turns out to be the new "top of the line" Kindle, which certainly appears to be the case), I won't be upgrading this time around.
Of course, I think I said that about the Voyage, too... |

Yes, that's what I thought too, when the Voyage first came out. Terribly expensive and I did not feel any urgent need to upgrade from my basic kindles. But I changed my mind after reading many good opinions about its screen quality, and it had page press sensors too... So I splurged, and I don't regret it.

Would you mind my asking why you find it hard to like the Voyage? I upgraded from two basic kindles and liked them very much, especially the basic with buttons, but I like the Voyage even more. So I would be interested to learn your reasons.

Hard to describe but I will try.
Fumbliness - The smaller the ereader, the more fumbly I am with it. I have a similar problem with the Nook Glo compared to the Nook ST. I have minor neurological issues in my hand, but these smaller devices seem to show just how clumsy I am. Poo. Font - there is something subtly different with what appears to be the same font on each ereader. I'm not sure if it is the font or the fact that you have to look through glass on the Voyage and it changes it slightly. Keep in mind that I have profound vision problems, so something that would not affect someone with regular vision wouldn't likely even notice. I have ghosting around images and it is more of a problem on the Voyage. It is not the lighting as I keep that off most of the time since I have an excellent reading light. It is slightly annoying and I probably would get over it if I didn't have a choice. Battery - OK, I promise to try another test since all the indexing should finally be done. When I first got my Voyage, I could barely finish a single book without recharging while I can read 2-3 books on the Kindle Keyboard without recharging. I will try to do a test over the next week or so and see if this problem is better now. Alas, I am running into some issues with my remaining Kindle Keyboard, so I may only get another year out of it. Sniff. It's my current take-a-long ereader. 3G - No, couldn't afford $75 to get it on the Voyage. What is up with that? It was an additional $20 on the Kindle Keyboard. I rarely have to use it, but do use it on these occasions where I have to care for an unhealthy relative who does not have wifi. This is usually unplanned and lasts a week or two. I will miss this feature when the KK dies. Being able to download my latest Asimov magazine or something from my archive was great when I had no idea when I'd be home next. I can't figure why the cost went up so high other than as a deterrent for people to buy it. Folder organization - I have given up. I have no idea how to get collections to work on the Voyage. The time I could have spent reading an entire book I wasted trying to put stuff into collections and then find them on the Voyage. I hated the organization on the Nook (only thing I didn't like) and now the Voyage is organized the same way it seems. I actually had to get 2 devices to make up for a single Kindle Keyboard - needed an ereader as well as a device that did text to speech. I'm happy with the Fire HDX for that, but now when I go out of town, I have to take 2 things with me instead of one. No matter what they do, they will never make all of us happy, but what the heck is with the collections? Just no point having more than 10 books or magazines on my ereader without being able to put stuff into easy to find folders. Buttons were the least of my problems, it seems, although buttons were the motivating factor to get the Voyage over the paperwhite. Last edited by Tarana; 04-13-2016 at 01:51 PM. |

I still love my Voyage, so much so that I have purchased a brand new 'Citron' cover for it instead of buying the Oasis!
![]() If it ain't broke don't fix it. And as the Oasis doesn't offer anything drastically different (apart from a clunky shape and some sticky-out buttons), I decided to get my Voyage a present so I won't be tempted to make a pointless and expensive 'upgrade.' Some upgrade. |

Thank you, that was interesting.
I would be very fumbly with the Voyage too, if I used it naked. Therefore I always read with the cover on. Not the hugely overpriced official cover, I got a cheap but nice and very comfy cover from a 3rd party seller. Collections work quite well on my Voyage. It is more complicated to set them up initially than it was on my older Kindles, though. Last edited by Sirtel; 04-13-2016 at 04:23 PM. |

I still love it. Actually, more than ever now I've seen what they are asking for an Oasis. So my Vogage continues... =)

I absolutely love my KV! It is cute. It is cuddly — much more so than a book. I turned off the haptic touch because I can see when the page turns, so now I love having buttons.
With regard to Tarana's question about the collections: . I don't remember how I figured out how to do it so you might want to call the Kindle help line. What I can tell you is that on the home page, there are 2 headers on the right side with little downward arrows. I have the first one set to "List view" and "All items" — there are check marks next to those. The second one (to the right of the first) is set to "collection". My collections work. |

I certainly love mine, especially now that it's jailbroken and I can use the cover mode and the collections plugin with Calibre. The cover mode makes it seem that much more like a book since I see the book cover every time I open it. I push the power button before closing as a habit, just so I can see the book cover. I also love my two origami cases (blue one and the premium leather one).

Oh, and a star beside the collection tells you which one is actually ON your kindle. If that helps. |

Considering I only got this 1 year ago I'm still in the honeymoon phase. I read on this thing every damn day and I love it. The recent software update that totally changed the menus and homescreen was nice as well so it feels like I'm using a brand new device.

I wouldn't say I love the Voyage, but it's currently the best available at the moment, IMO. My gripes are basically the size of the bezels and the pressure buttons. Small bezels cause me to accidentally get page turns by touching the screen, since the screen is flush with the bezel (something the PW does better, but lacks the screen clarity). The pressure buttons are another source of accidental page turns, even with the settings tweaked to require more force.
That screen though. The best on a Kindle, (not even the PW3 matches it), and the clarity is rather important. |

But, yeah, I know, it's a lot of money just to test drive it! I think I would like it, but I'm trying to hold off till my current Voyage breaks, or my health issues actually bother me. I think I should stop reading about the Oasis though, or I may get hypnotized into buying it ..... Last edited by badgoodDeb; 04-15-2016 at 01:06 PM. |
