The only thing I can think of that runs on 240 is an electric clothes dryer here in the states.

I disagree on the "nothing you can do"!

Give amazon a call!

They might still be able to help you, even if it is our of warranty (cheap deal on refurbished one, etc...)

Why? Because if you do not have a Kindle, you can not buy Kindle books from them. So they have an incentive to make sure you have a Kindle....

Not much you can lose that way, either...

I've already tried, they offered me a small discount for other models of Kindle but not for the Paperwhite.. so I guess I'm going to try a Kobo this time..

Strange. I found them quite helpful, but when I broke my first kindle, that was also some time ago (Kindle Keyboard).

Nevertheless, a kobo will have the same problem, if you bend it...
Whatever you get, get a good and sturdy cover.

Not just a Kindle, any eInk Reader should NEVER go into any pocket. The rick of damage rises greatly. Also, don't go out and about with your eInk Reader without a good case to try to protect it.

Send it in using the trade in. You get at minimum $5 plus $20 off a new one. It is free to do so. You may end up with more than the $5 as I did plus you can use that $5 towards the new kindle as well I believe. I don't think it is restricted.
