I'd recommend booklover6's suggestion to use an old/different email address to create a new account just to register your Kobo with. Otherwise you'll end up tearing your hair out in frustration trying to log in with your original email address. I gave up on my original Kobo account and re-registered with another email address, but just recently went round in circles all over again trying to register my Kobo Mini with my most recent Kobo account.

Blossoms correct Harry. I had Kobo with our Literatti All we got were Freebies. I kept the Account open but ignored it after they crashed a year later. The Sony did their switch. So I went ahead & merged the 2 accounts... With Sony I purchased ebooks with Gift Cards I got at Best Buy. Then the Sony crashed! So I figured I lost those ebooks. Nothing to read ebooks on. Then some kind person helped me figure out why Alf didn't work for me. So I grabbed all the ebooks I Really wanted & closed the account.

For the sake of completeness, several years ago in the early going it would have fully downloaded all the books in full onto your device the 1st time you connected. |

I just use the approach of deleting books on the website; this way they stay in the trash and can be restored when needed.

On Amazon I buy the book DL it to my PC transfer to Calibre, Remove DRM Transfer them to my External HD. Then use Calibre to Side load them into the Readers. Then Dleete the books off my Amazon account. Exception is I keep on Amazon ALL the ebooks with Audible companions so I can use the Immersive Reading feature. Reason I have Over 1400 ebooks but only 300 on my account

Deleting books from your account means that you won't get updates for them. That doesn't sound like a very good idea. I have about 2000 books bought from Amazon, and typically get a few updates every week.

You may purchase a book and never know parts are missing till you try to read it and need an updated copy. I still have to contact Kindle support for them to send me an updated copy because over 95% of them do not update due to publisher not filling out the forms correctly when submitting an update.

I sometimes just go into a given eBook account and redownload. Then I check against the eBooks I've got to see what might have been updated. A lot do get updated behind the scenes without any notification and the only way to get the new copy is to go download and compare against what you already have.
