I have always said and I will say that it is all about what is comfortable for you. And maybe when you get old like me and your eyes start to fail then you will change your mind. I just wish that I had listened to my eye and ear doctors long ago, them maybe me eyes and ears would be better, but then again it just maybe that I am getting to that age.

Most embarrassed I ever saw someone was when they asked how old I was. The exact conversation went something like this. "I thought you were in your early 20's until I noticed your bifocals. So how old are you? I answered I am 21. |

![]() I think it is very much personal comfort, just like you said. I have no doubt that eye-strain from backlit LCDs is a real thing for some (maybe even many) people. I just don't think it's the technology-inherent issue many would have us believe it is. *shrug* |

![]() Pretty sure I spend more time staring into a back-lit LCD screen than I don't. Can't remember the last headache I had, or the last time I didn't sleep like the dead. |

For decades automakers in the United States pushed the notion that "The Market" just wanted huge muscle cars...until the Japanese offered fuel efficient cars designed to last 250,000 to 300,000 miles. It turned out that there was a diverse marketplace, not a "The Market" and long lasting cars sole alongside the gas guzzlers. We have seen the same thing with phones. Now there are tiny clamshell phones and seven inch phablets. One does not negate the other. Yes there is a market for thin and light tablets. Nothing I posted denied that. That does not mean there is not also a market for more robust units. |

Unfortunately, it seems none of the major manufacturers are interested in serving a market for larger battery items.
On the topic of e-ink use... I actually sat behind a woman using an Aura HD today. First time I'd seen another Kobo in quite a while. I see e-ink readers on a fairly often basis, but they're usually Kindles. (Which is strange, given Kobo's dominance of the Canadian market.) |

I did not say there was no market for it I just said that the manufacturers see only the market for thinner and lighter. |

Well, why would you need a large and heavy tablet when you can have a thin tablet and a power pack to charge it with? I really believe there is no market for heavier tablets.

What would be the difference in a little heavier tablet and caring a lighter tablet and having to care a battery backup device. Why can't we have a nice trade off.

One of the best things about an e-ink device over a tablet is how long you can go between charges. But I do not have as much trouble reading on a tablet as I thought I'd have. I just have to adjust the type, and maybe the brightness.

THIS May change things.. so maybe e-ink Is dying! IF it extends battery life as it also claims I Hope they update my Amazon Phone with it!
The 2015 fire tablet is going to be getting blue shade. From the product page: New-Blue Shade is an exclusive Fire OS "Bellini" feature that works behind the scenes to automatically adjust and optimize the backlight for a more comfortable nighttime reading experience. Plus, it extends your battery life by up to 25% while reading at default Blue Shade brightness. Simply tap Blue Shade on the quick actions menu to turn on this feature and enjoy your favorite book, news article, app, or any other nighttime activity without straining your eyes. https://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/...x3J1XCMB58C49F I Copy / Pasted the 1st post but here the link to the Whole thread! |

It would have to increase battery life by a lot more than 25% to come anywhere near my Paperwhite's battery life.
