Problems with backlight - 2 new Paperwhite 3

I have 2 Paperwhite 3's, bought during last 3 months of 2015...

Both of them look very similar to yours, with "shadow cones" of light gray blobs at the very bottom of the screens... there are 4 LED's at the bottom that shine upward to reflect light... those shadows seem "normal" for the PW3

I spent considerable time reading the "1 star reviews" at the Paperwhite 3 product page on Amazon.com There are several instances where customers received severely defective/damaged screens and they took pictures and those pictures can be seen in the reviews. Your screen looks comparatively normal. I just had to get used to the screen and enjoy the reading.

It seems that buying these is like playing roulette or the lottery and hope you receive a good unit

Others here may well have a different outlook

I handled 3 PW3s. All of them had the shadow cones, but one Kindle was like yours, with a distinctly brighter lower corner, although it was the left one. So there are some units that are a bit more "uniform" in the bottom area. If it bothers you when reading, you could try exchanging it if you don't mind the time and effort.

I was in BestBuy today and saw a perfect Voyage on display. Even screen at all levels of backlight. Tempted to try buying it again... The previous Voyage I tried to buy was all blotchy.
