What good news. I'm seriously tempted to update to a 505.

I think I've figured out what is the silicone cover offered by Waterstone's. One of the news reports mentions
Quote:
A waterproof case for the PRS-505 will be made available too as an optional extra and is a wise investment for holidaymakers.
DO want.

Wow, that looks.. cool. Is it an actual transparent light imposed on the screen? Has it been on the Sony Style store before or is it completely new? I don't really have a use for it myself, but I like the look of the cover. I wonder if it could crack the screen with some mishandling, though, like picking it up by the back cover and having the "light"? hit the screen while swinging. Or maybe that part isn't the light and I'm just being silly.

To celebrate the good news, the Independent has devoted an article to e-books in Britain:

The Big Question: Do electronic books threaten the future of traditional publishing?

Quote:
Waterstone's says it is already working with publishers. Waterstone's category manager Toby Bourne said: "It offers a new way of reading that is easy and convenient, and we're working with publishers to develop the best range of e-books we can – classics and brand-new bestsellers – to read on it."

If they do start selling epub format, I'll be a happy reader, although at the current $/£ exchange rate, I hope the US store front starts selling epub too

I wonder why they are advertising readers in one colour only. No blue ones.

Id expect a more accurate article from the independent!

here are a few of my faves.

"comes with waterproof case for reading in the bath"

Does it really? I dont think so but we could be in for a suprise.

"The device also simulates the physical feeling of turning a book page with a touch sensitive area. "
erm gain i dont think do... unless they mean buttons!?!

"The devices at 260 grams is heavier than most books and runs on batteries which, despite boasting a life equal to 6,800 continuous page turns from a single charge, will need to be recharged.
thats lighter than most books I have but I'll let them off, they get extra points for making it clear that the batteries...wait for it... will need to be recharged!

"When liquids are dropped on books, or they land in a swimming pool, they can be dried out, whereas e-books cannot."

how do you drop an ebook in the pool? ok im being picky but surely they mean an ebook reader. an ebook on cd dropped in a pool would be fine

maybe im just picky but it made me smile.

If we're being picky, surely we have to say it depends what liquid you fill your swimming pool with. Your eBook on a CD might not like being dropped into a pool of, say, hydrofluoric acid .
